I have a new 2 TB Time Capsule and a new Airport Express set-up where the Time Capsule is configured as the main base station with the radio mode set to "automatic" (802.11a/n-802.11b/g/n) in the back of the house and the AX is at the front of the house and is set to extend the network. Everything works great with all of my newer 'n' capable Macs. The exception is that my older iMac (circa 2002) running OS X Tiger cannot connect to my network to get online. It sees and shows my network as an option but every time I try to connect, I get an error message telling me it failed to connect and to try again. I can also see my guest network as available, but get the same message if I try to connect thru that option.
My older iMac is sitting in the same front room with the AX and again, sees the network, but cannot connect. I had absolutely no issues with the old set-up (first generation 'n' Airport Extreme coupled with first generation AX (b/g) with the older AE set up as the main and the older AX as a remote WDS. I also tried to duplicate my old WDS set-up but to no avail-the ASX just keeps flashing yellow and never re-starts and upon further inspection of the error in Airport Utility it tells me that it cannot find the main base station. I checked and re-checked the settings...not sure what's going on there. There must be a setting somewhere that is off...
I should also add that when I run the airport utility on the older iMac, neither the TC or the AX show up. The only time the AX shows up in the Airport utility is when i re-set it back to default factory setting and the Airport utility never sees Time Capsule at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated-I spent hours on this yesterday!
UPDATE: Doh! Sometimes the most obvious thing...I changed the password protocol from WPA2 to WPA/WPA2...problem solved!
