OP answer the following 2 questions:

1) what is it that you intend to shoot that requires long sequences of high FPS captures?

2) what lens(es) do you currently own and intend to use on this camera?

I hope you realize the following points:

1) 4.1MP is exceedingly low in resolution for still shots. A D2H shoots at 2464x1632. Frankly, that is getting awfully close to the 1920x1080 resolution fullHD video your D5100 can grab at 30fps, for 5+ minutes at a time (think of it as a 9000 frame buffer). What sort of outputs are you looking at where a 2464x1632 image is going to suffice, but a 1920x1080 frame capture from HD video will not? Yes you won't be able to edit RAW files from HD video frame grabs, but you already have very comparable (and in some ways vastly superior) high speed capture ability in your current body.

2) even though the body may be better weather sealed, your lens is not. If you think using a consumer zoom or other low end lens on this body will let you shoot in the driving rain/sandstorm with impunity, then think again. The weakest link in any camera setup is always going to be the lens/lens mount. A similar argument applies to durability- doesn't matter how rugged your body is if you broke your "plastic fantastic" lens in rough conditions.

But at the end of the day it's your money and your choice. If you do get an old pro body I hope it works out for you.

It worked out just fine for past users, and it's working out just fine for the current users of old pro bodies.

Not everyone wants the latest sensor technology especially when it's in a consumer camera.

I actually ended up buying a Nikon D200 for a really good price, $200 something. It's a great camera.
