When I got my current Apple TV (the one before 4k, but with the new style remote), I hated the new remote. So I went back to the old-style remote from my original Apple TV. It's worked well for years.

Now after updating, the remote barely works. It's weird. You can press any of the buttons repeatedly, long-press, whatever. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I put a new battery in it but it didn't help. This is very weird.

I also pulled out the remote it came with, but it appears to be completely dead. I've had it plugged into a charge cable for two days and nothing, no lights, nada.

It seems the only way to control this thing now is the Apple TV Remote function on my phone. Better than nothing, but annoying.

Anybody else have this issue?

I am using a third party remote that was designed for the gen 1, 2, and 3 with my ATV HD instead of the Siri remote and it works well with tvOS 13.

Since I have 5 Apple tv's in my house, I use the remote app. I can't remember the last time I used the physical Apple TV remote.
