I‘ll be getting the 13” iPad pro this time around. I currently have the 11” pro and while it is nice I regret not getting the 13” for both the screen size and the mini-led display.

I don't know what you're talking about. The rear camera position hasn't moved.

Chassis looks the same. Speakers and port still on short side but can’t tell if the port is still on the right side or not because you would see the rear camera bulge either way in pics like this

The location of the volume buttons tells you. The layout is the same as an iPhone. I don't see how there's any ambiguity with these drawings. Based on the location of the camera plateau and buttons, there is only one possible orientation.

Looks like speaker holes on the long side now, and a UBS - C port in the middle of the long side. Maybe the Apple Pencil interface is now on the short side ? Surprised no comments on that apparent change.
Edit: Nevermind. Other commenters already made my point.

Weight is a significant ergonomic factor, and hopefully the thinness will translate to less weight.
Yup, a notably lighter 12.9 would be the only thing that would make me consider moving off my 2022 so soon. In fact, if the rumored iPad Air 12.9 cuts enough weight compared to the Pro, I'd seriously think about trading in my Pro despite it being a "downgrade".

Thinner doesn't really move the needle for me, although, I could change my mind once I actually hold one in my hands. Still, unless it's also lighter, I don't think I'd trade in my 2022 for just thinner.

If OLED/thinner is the only substantial upgrade here I see zero reason to get rid of my 2020 iPad Pro.

Nice evolutionary changes to a great hardware product. I’m still really enjoying my M1 12.9. I would have loved to see a second USB-C/TB port as these things are so powerful as it is. But OLED, M3, and Landscape FaceTime camera will be nice changes, especially for anyone with a non-M powered iPad Pro.

I’m more interested in an iPad Mini 7 at this point. Great device to have for my residency which begins this July!

The thinness of this one has me nervous. I’m taking a wait and see approach. I love my M2 Pro and in all honest, all I want is any potent update to the pencil, if it has drawing improvments is for it to be compatible with my Pro

The only justification I’m interested in for making these thinner is significant weight loss. Part of the reason I love the Mini is the lack of heft that makes it so comfortable to hold. Comparing a 12.9” iPad to something like a ReMarkable 2 tablet is pretty stark - I prefer the lightness of the latter for most things. If they can get an iPad into that weight category, that’s an accomplishment.

It would have to be titanium or something besides aluminum for durability though. Otherwise these will bend like crazy.

If the Magic Keyboard could also lose quite a bit of heft, there might actually be some argument against just getting a laptop — and I say this as someone who has a current 12.9 + Magic Keyboard instead of a laptop. But I do recognize there's not much of a logical reason to get this setup over a MacBook.

But OLED + substantially thinned down could help.

BUT also, like, I already get worried enough as it is my iPad is going to get bent.
Yeah, the Magic Keyboard plus iPad is a really thick beast. A totally different feel than just the iPad itself.

just keep the current design and fill it with batteries
nope - will not happen and that's a good thing - thinner means lighter - it's not a MAC - it's can iPad that you handhold - lighter means better in this respect and in case it dopes the 10+ hours of mobile constant usage I am absolutely fine with it - within 10 h I always find a power bank or plug to charge it
It’s happening! So excited.
jep - very excited here as well - this is going to be a huge endeavor for Apple to introduce Titanium and OLED - hope we'll see a stunning 4 TB device
No one wants this! Just give them more battery and get rid of the camera hump already...
I agree on the camera bump - this is not really good design but it does not hurt too much either. For what do you want more battery life? It lasts a whole day of usage - that's more than adequate for most users - a poor plug will be available at least once a day
Weight is a significant ergonomic factor, and hopefully the thinness will translate to less weight.
in case I calculated it right we should see something around 400 g for the 11.1" version - that would be great - just a few grams more than an iPad mini plus sleeve - great stuff
If OLED/thinner is the only substantial upgrade here I see zero reason to get rid of my 2020 iPad Pro.
you don't have one - I am going to replace my two years older iPP 2018 - which is going in it's 6th year of using it and it neither bent nor did the battery fade totally away - I still gt all day battery life and good enough speed - mainly because I chose 1 TB with 6 GB RAM - always good to get such things maxed out and stay with them for a long time - installing a new one is time you can safe.
The main reason for getting my new 11.1 " iPP will be 4 TB storage - hoping to see that - that would be the single most wanted feature for me.
Other than that the3 nm M3 and the new neural engine will boost any kind of on device ML algorithms and make the device even more attractive.

The 2020 iPP has to my best knowledge still the old A12 SoC in it - thus almost no upgrade to the iPP 2018 - the new 11.1 " version however will feature roughly 4x the ML capabilities and a dramatically boosted 4x more powerful GPU and 3x more computational power - in a package that's lighter and thus longer handholdable and probably better handling of external devices.

Also the 202 model did not feature Thunderbolt.

In case all of these things don't matter to you the question remains why you did not keep your 2018 iPad pro which had alle the same design and functionality?
( in case you did not buy the 2018 model you just lost two exiting years of using the very same device )

Step 1 - reduce rear camera thickness, it doesn’t have to be too good
Step 2 - bring the thickness of the rest of the iPad to be inline with the cameras
Step 3 - fill in extra space with battery and a bidirectional kickstand

Not that these are deal breakers but it would have been nice if instead of going thin they got rid of the camera bump, that way you can lie it flat and use the pencil on it.

Plus, 3 pin connector still there - I know a while ago there had been rumours of more connectors to increase the functionality of a new MK - seems not this time.
