Couple of guys are uploading videos on YouTube saying that Apple can simply not use an OLED Display in an iPad because an OLED Display this size i.e. 10.5" & 12.9" would be too expensive, but don't you guys think just like Apple introduced an OLED Display in the iPhone X with an increased Price they can very well do that same for an OLED iPad Pro. I do not think higher Manufacturing cost is going to stop Apple from bringing the OLED Display in the iPad because at the end of the day Apple can just increase the iPad Prices and get the Cost+Profit recovered from the customer isn't it guys ? what do you guys think ? I do not think high manufacturing cost is a problem for Apple, I guess availability, making it is a problem right now for Apple! If I read the situation correctly !

an OLED display without ProMotion is a step backwards compared to the current display technology with the 120hz refresh rate.

Once Apple can develop an OLED with 120hz with no drawbacks compared to the iPad Pro, you can be damn sure they will be implementing that into their iOS devices.

I just don’t think they have the supply of oled that size ready to mass produce. I mean didn’t they not release an X plus because of lack of oled screens? I think it will be 2019 whne we oled in iPads. Not sure I’m ready to pay that price atleast in release day.

I personally don't see it happening. If anything, they'll likely move to that super LCD or whatever it's called that they are considering for the 6.1 iPhone this year.

If it's a pentile oled, they'd have to massively increase the resolution to make it look good, 260 ppi won't cut it, you need at least 400+ in reality (500+ is optimal). For that at 12.9 You're talking something like 5k resolution...

I don’t know how much more a 12.9” OLED is likely going to be.

Let us say hypothetically that it costs 2.5x the current iPad in costs to Apple.

Would you be willing to pay USD 1600 for a base wifi 12.9” OLED display? What about USD 3000 for a top end 12.9” cellular with AC and accessories maxed out?

And would you be ready to do that every 1-2 years?

On a more realistic note, if they were to release something like this it would probably be priced north of USD 1100/1200 base and nearing USD 1900+ for the top model with AC.

Apple "Cult" has always paid what Apple has demanded ! Period !

ATM an OLED iPad would be too expensive (even for Apple standards). But maybe when the yields get better, though that's something everyone has been saying for 2-3 years now and they don't seem to massively improve.

Samsung has been using AMOLED displays in tablets for awhile now. Is this different than the tech Apple is using in the iPhone X?

Same thing I was wondering. By the way, I just noticed Costco has the Samsung Tab S3 (oled) on sale for $430, $100 off.

Probably similar screen tech, although not nearly as complex. The rest of the parts are junk though and you get a junk OS with junk apps.

As an owner of a 10.5 iPP and a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, I disagree with that assessment.
What are your thoughts on the two screens? I had a 10.5 iPP for about a week and was spoiled by the screen (mainly ProMotion scrolling fluidity); went back to 12.9 iPP (2015) and iPad Mini 4. Although using it outdoors didn't provide the sort of brightness I was hoping for after the early marketing hype.

I have two samsung tab s2's with oled screens and i also used the 2017 ipad pro 12.9 for two months. I use or used them both indoors and outdoors in very bright desert sunshine. I like both screens. Oled is brighter and prettier, Ipad is more natural.

I would agree with that - the 10.5 screen to me is the most natural tablet screen I have seen/used. Video and photos on it are beautiful. For myself, I don't see OLED as significant discriminator and I certainly would not pay a premium for over the current 10.5 display. I generally don't use the iPP outside so brightness is not an issue (it is much better than the Air 2 I replaced).

I used the Samsung Tab 3 and it a QWA OLED resolution screen with a Snapdragon 820 and 4GB RAM and 32 GB flash memory with option micro SD up to 256GB. Great for consuming media resolution is 2K and has quad speakers too! Very fast and has a pencil too that you can draw and take notes on. Been out for a whole year now so it kind of old. Still very nice!

Lol, I have a 2014 Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. It has a 10.5" OLED screen. It was cheaper than an iPad Pro, but every tablet is.

Apple needs to either take less profit or manufacture their own screens.

Apple is the most money making company ! Period ! It does not let go even one single avenue and opportunity to make it, yes it also equally gives you in return in terms of Customer Satisfaction. But Apple would never I think get into making of Hardware Components for its devices, Will take away the main focus from the company which is User Experience !!

I'd prefer ProMotion over OLED. Then again, I absolutely loved the screen of the iPad Mini 4, so I honestly do not see much of a difference on my iPad Pro (beyond the benefits of ProMotion.)

And the iPad Pros are too expensive now, OLED will give Apple the excuse to go way overboard pricing-wise.

I know there are reports of Modern iPads and LCD iPads - I seriously doubt we get a full iPad Pro update in 2018. In terms of LCD, Apple will be using LDC screens for a long time - they are still introducing new LCD iPhones. If the iPad screen is moved towards more edge to edge format, look to the new 6.1" LCD iPhone as how it will look.

I felt the same way originally, but I think they'll want to move to an X design quickly. I can't see them selling an flagship iPad with a home button in September. I could be wrong of course. Maybe March 2019 worst case.
