I am still fine with my M1. I had been kind of wanting to get the newly redesigned M6 mbp and I’d have no problem waiting until 2027 for it.
On M2 Air and will happily wait as well, however long it takes. Tim’s Apple can’t deliver the way  used. Everything gets pushed back except marketing related OS releases that aren’t ready. They will come on time and are doomed to as result of the new naming scheme. Apple Intelligence and now Liquid Glass getting frosty plastic one beta at a time the byproduct. Add to that the Vision Pro that needed more wood behind the arrow, but was released to calm the narrative that  can’t innovate anymore.

The great artists ship mantra Steve once proudly spoke of is a long lost mantra. Amazing how much of their own history is forgotten by modern leadership. I just hope they knock the next generation MacBook Pro out of the park. Mac hardware and  silicon as well as AirPods are the only Apple products I care about anymore and remind me of what Apple at its best is about. The rest are a price gouge and predictably underwhelming. How spoiled we are now. :p

Naw they ship far more often, far more products, and products that last longer, or at least feel like they are the most up to date thing. I bought my first Mac used as a kid in 2003, it was introduced in Jan 2001, and discontinued in July. It received 6 years worth of OS X updates, that cost mind you, versus the at least 7 my M1 will get. The Jobs era was the best, but this era is still great.

If you ignore the vapourware (AI, and perhaps liquid glass once the final release ships with all the backtracking)and the years of obvious features like OLED and the Dynamic Island w/ FaceID replacing the notch then yes. Cellular Mac’s with the  C1, who knows how long people have to wait for that. MagSafe be gone, MagSafe be back and years of butterfly keyboards another less than great example. At least they knew to kill the cube and ping when they got it wrong.

However, no argument that they ship great stuff and still rule with the Mac. The staggering of many things is very obvious however, as it serves milking for the spreadsheet and that aspect alone, lets certain things sit idle longer than they should.

I would argue that hasn't changed as much as people think; the difference being that back in those days we didn't have the 24/7 rumor mill where potential features both real and fabricated, so people like Gurman have content, endlessly talking about things that Apple never confirmed. Think about how many times a day you are on here checking for rumors about possible upcoming software or hardware features, now compare that to how you used to consume your tech info.

The original OSX release was delayed itself. How many Lion features were actually delayed from Jaguar or Panther because they took longer to be ready. In the before times we would never have had months or years of those rumors about features some guy with a pretty bad track record promised were coming. And of course if you suggest that these weren't delays but rather Apple's feature roadmap, well back then no one would have accused SJ of withholding OSX features to force upgrades to OS updates which we actually had to buy.

Going way back, most people had no idea the extent of the problems with and long delays concerning Rhapsody because the reporting wasn't daily.

I look at the OLED thing as they have to make far more computers, at a better quality than their competitors no matter what. Just as it was with the iPhone. OLED was not a new thing, but most OLEDs in the beginning were total garbage compared to a iPhone LCD screen. Yeah I guess you have OLED computers out there nowadays but nobody wants them, nor cares about them. Apple is the high end market. After MacBooks, you mostly have Chromebooks and awful HP and Dell computers.

Nailed it. Think that is a the source of a lot of frustration in some ways. In one respect, Apple had patience in many categories to hit the market with the best. In other respects, they raised the bar that made the competition look instantly outdated. The Retina display in the iPhone 4 and how it travelled through the entire line of products, except the Air, because margins. Now that Apple is fully run by the finance department, you just sense the areas where it feels like they are dragging their heels as opposed to hitting the ground running.

There is more arrogance in the success of their products then there is true pride in what they create and why at times.

I think this will resonate with a lot of people here. Especially coming from Siracusa.
