I wish they'd make the housing out of translucent plastic, it would solve the issue of the screen dimming because the light sensor is covered by the lens housing.

I have the original set for the iPhone and I use the macro lenses frequently. However I wish that olliclip would explain how their different offerings compare as I find them pretty confusing/overlapping.

(And I also find the dimming really annoying).

And my question was why use these instead of a proper camera? To me it seems you are trying to get into serious picture taking with a gimmick
What gimmick? It's a camera and a very good one at that. It's clear you not a photographer

I agree clip on lenses are a waste of money. Give me a nice case and I'm happy

I use a slightly different lens attachment system (the alm mCAMLITE). I find the 2x Telephoto is nearly ideal for most of my video. With some apps and shooting scenarios, the digital zoom is impractical (or maybe even impossible) to use, and it may degrade the image quality too much.

I personally have little use for fisheye or macro lenses on the phone, but I can see how they could be useful to others. And, for example, you can equip 3, 6, maybe even a dozen phones for the cost of just a single lens for a DSLR/ILC. So depending on your existing equipment and your needs (e.g. you may already have phones), these can end up being very economical.

Why do people on this and similar sites always say "almost everyone ______" ???

that is really not true. It may be amongst a certain group. But that doesn't mean most of the earth's population does or owns something popular amongst techies such as us. I got into the similar argument with someone regarding sleeve tattoos and the apple watch. Yes tattoos are popular. No, not almost everyone has them.

Same here these clip on lenses are popular. No, not "almost everyone" has them.

He's saying almost everyone has a smartphone.

I'm curious how people like the lens attachment method that is used by this device?

I have purchased one of these, a long time ago:

http://www.icroscope.com/

the device worked fine, but I never cared for it iPhone attachment method.

I bought and used Olloclip lenses from the beginning and find the price reasonable for the service provided. I am a very competent photographer (35mm, 4,5x6 to 6x12cm, 4x5") and find that the early Ollo gadget is a now good solution given the iPhone 6+'s photo quality. What I object are details : no upward compatibility, that they produced a polarizing lens for the 5s which doesn't fit the new 6 lenses by a very small margin - typical Apple buy-it-again scam. If they even offered it. Clean up your act!

My objection is the ease of phone photography made less so by the carrying of extra fiddly bits. Compounded by the assembly and breakdown of it when you feel like acquiring the desired range.

If the phone photographer has decided that they want more range and are willing to carry more, a small point and shoot is but one object; the right one affording range, internal ND filter, and a proper fill flash with capable distance.

Oloclip product I consider training wheels for phone photographers to get a feel for supplementary range at a relatively low cost. But the carrying of bits, assembly, breakdown, and exposure to dropping can eventually lead one to stop bringing the lenses with them.

Agreed. I had to contact the company twice to get a rough idea of the multiplier or approx focal length of the several wide angles when on a phone. Not a good impression for a company trying to show photography chops.
Ps: otherwise I like the products very much. The new case is a simple & effective asset.
