My mum has chucked the box from my MacBook in the bin. Weeks ago.

What the **** am I gonna do? It had the OS X DVD etc still in there! I need them. Now.

And I can't return the MacBook for repairs without the box can I? I told her to keep the box. I want to punch her. GAH!

Yes, you can send it for repair without the box. Apple sends you a box if you need to send it for repair.

The missing Disc is a problem though. Hope you never have to reinstall Tiger.

Contact Apple about the discs and explain what happened...they'll charge you something, but they'll get you new discs.

(And it sounds like your mom should be the one to pay for the new discs, unless she made it clear to you that she was going to throw out the box and to make sure it was empty first.)

They'll charge. That's nice of them....oh wait.

As I said in my post....I told her to keep it. She didn't even look in the box...she just presumed it was empty and binned it.....evil woman.

i dont see what the problem would be if apple sent out the disks for free. i mean all intel macs have it native on them and the intel version of os x wont work on ppc computers

anybody else see my point here? especially since all osx for intel is just tiger at the moment

I don't know how much they'll charge, but at a minimum they'll charge a shipping and handling fee for their trouble...probably $10-20. But it could be more.

Why should they? It costs them money to make the discs and ship them out; why should they have to eat the costs for your mistake.

Gee I'm sorry about that :( My gran throws out things randomly too but she knows to ask me before now :D shes thrown important things out before!

Do you expect them to give out free disks because of your own mistake? People would probably abuse that like crazy.

You're right, I was temporaliy blinded by anger.

Luckily the nice people of MR have calmed be down....I now know I'm OK if I need my laptop repairing, and I should be able to get hold of the DVD's :)

Now just to wait for this pesky rebate to arrive!

Cheers guys!

I feel for you. As much space as the box for my Mac Pro and ACD take up, there's no way I'm throwing them away. The way I figure it, you should always keep the boxes for things while they're in warranty and/or if you plan to sell them on at some point in the future.

A few months ago I was doing some home improvements on my flat in Brighton and had moved one of the big wheelie bins right up to the front door of the building because of throwing so much crap out. I came down and the bin was open and someone in the building (I think the modelling/photography company upstairs) had thrown out at least six boxes for brand new intel iMacs. I nearly cried. I mean new boxes. New Apple boxes.
I nearly fished them out myself but had enough crap littering my flat as it was. :(

Funny thing is....... I want to punch you.

Dude said he wanted to punch his mom. If that doesn't qualify him for getting punched himself, I don't know what does.
Yeah, wanting to punch your mom, and writing about it sure seems a bit extreme. The OP needs to learn to control that temper before it gets him into trouble.

How can there be anger in the world when we have such pretty machines.
