Can't they go beyond a VGA front facing camera?
No, see you don't understand that this is a magical device. It plays in PERFECT harmony with your iPhone 4, and that's what it's all about, HARMONY! Just look at the CRISP BEAUTIFUL text. Please keep looking at it. I plan on making facetime incompatible on older devices once I adjust the specs of the camera.

Umm, if it has a front facing camera, it will support FaceTime. People won't buy iPads just to take self-portraits.
WE put ALL the EXPERIENCE we have EVER learned into this MAGICAL device. What I want to introduce today is the NEW product... ...a new app and we think you're gonna like it. We call it Mirrors. You get to take WONDERFUL portraits using our MAGICAL REVERSE... ...image processing system.

ridiculously useful

a back camera would make the iPad an amazing portable computing device to gather information. I'm currently a geology student and recently on a field trip i couldn't see why all the data collection and processing couldn't be done on an iPad, which would have been more effective modelling and ALOT faster.

also i love to use the iPad as a cook book. it would be great if I could take photos of my creations on the same device that i keep all the info for the recipes.

basically it would make the iPad an amazing data collection and processing tool.

Like a clipboard with a camera

I can see it.

Agreed. The idea that the iPad is somehow too large to use as a camera is kind of ridiculous. Yes, it is larger than most devices casually used as a camera, but it is still a pretty small device. I really don't think it is so preposterous an idea, and there are many uses for such a function.
