On AT&T service but want to Unlock for International Use

Sorry if this has been covered already, but I couldn't find a post on it.

If you have AT&T contract/service, can you unlock your iPhone 3GS for international use, but still be able to use it normally on your AT&T service in the states?

If so, do you just use ultrasnow? Thanks for your help guys!

You can, provided that you haven't already upgraded to 3.1. Jailbreak and install UltraSn0w.

So on 3.0 or 3.0.1 an unlocked phone will still work fine on its home network.

If you're already on 3.1 you're stuck for now though.
