I downloaded the HP LaserJet Firmware Download Utility from HP's site, to upgrade the firmware to the latest version.

Well, i open the utility but nothing happens. It stays on the dock, but nothing appears on the screen, or the printer.

Im still covered buy warranty so, I contact HP online support. You won't believe the answers ive got:

#1 - My OS is too recent (10.6.8) I should downgrade to an older one (10.4; 10.5, or 10.6)

Yeah, seriously... So, after telling them I tried to upgrade from a notebook with 10.5:

#2 - I should use a Windows machine

I mean... Seriously?

That being said, i'll start looking for another printer (one compatible with AirPrint at least) with a decent support service. I had enough trouble trying to configure this printer on a Mac, and this situation was enough for me to get over HP crappy products.

Can anybody recommend a good laser printer, with AirPlay and decent support service and Mac compatibility?

Thanks!

broken firmware

I actually spoke to HP about this today and they could confirm to me that the firmware package is actually broken.

They did say that they are currently working on fixing the issue and they said it should be resolved by next week (they said they'd give me a call in a week's time as well)

I think for now you should just stay put - but I understand what you mean with HP's "service": I was asked to spell the word 'firmware' because the lady dealing with me never heard of it (i thought she was joking - but she really wasn't!)

Broken Firmware 2

Unbelievable.....Just bought P1102W, cannot upgrade firmware...icon bounces in the dock, nothing else happens. Contacted HP and am being asked to contact a premium rate phone number in Barcelona from the UK!

Still Nothing

Hi

Just got off of the Phone to HP UK support and they just dont have a clue!

this is starting to get on my tits now, my old windows laptop is brocken so can't update with that, not Happy I only brought this printer today because of the air print feture not happy at all

After talking with HP, they admitted there is a problem with their firmware and recent versions of Mac OS X. I was told to expect a new firmware update around the middle of August.

So if you download and install this with Windows it works fine, just not with OS X? Good thing I have a PC as well.

The funny thing is that I really don't need to be able to print via my iPhone, I just want the ability to.

I know this thread is a few months old but I downloaded the firmware file the other day and tried to install it and still the same what everyone says, the icon bounces but nothing happens. Anyone have any new news on the firmware update for this printer?

I'd also like to know. This is the printer I've had my eye on for quite sometime.
