once i get iPhone, just add 15$ a month to my existing plan for data?

I am currently on a family plan with a number of people. My questions is when i get the iPhone, i just add my own 15$ data plan to our existing plan, correct?? i don't have to change our shared minutes or texting right?

i could easily use more, but don't want to pay 30$ a month, ill have access to wi-fi the majority of the time any who.
