Well I tried all these steps. And it worked! For 3 mins.

My right airpod will cut out after 20 mins or less. Causing a desync and both airpods stop. Both say they have more then enough battery. Putting the right airpod back in the case and out again only works for a minute or two before the connection fails again.

AirPods and AirPods 2 are designed to work seamlessly with all of Apple's Bluetooth-supporting devices, and nine times out of ten the wireless earbuds live up their billing, but that doesn't mean they work perfectly for everyone one hundred percent of the time.

A particularly irritating problem that can sometimes occur is when one AirPod drops the connection intermittently or stops working altogether for no apparent reason. If you've been hit by this bug, following the steps below should help you resolve it.

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Bluetooth, and then tap the 'i' icon next to your AirPods in the list.
  3. Tap Forget this Device.

Ensure that both AirPods are in their charging case and that the case has charge.
  4. Locate the small button on the back of the case, near the bottom. It's flush with the case and the same color as it, so you might need to feel about for it.
  5. Open the charging case lid.
  6. Press and hold the button on the back of the case for at least 15 seconds. If you are using a first-generation (i.e. non-wireless) AirPods charging case, the case's internal light between the AirPods will flash white and then amber, indicating the AirPods have reset. If you are using AirPods 2 or a Wireless Charging Case, you can find this light on the front of the case.
  7. Now, close the lid of your AirPods case and then open it up again.

Hold the AirPods case with open lid next to your iPhone or iPad. Your iOS device should recognize the AirPods and you'll see a popup to connect them.
If the above steps don't solve the problem, try resetting your iPhone's network settings. To do so, launch the Settings app and select General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings, then try re-pairing your AirPods by repeating the steps above.

This worked for me once and then the right AirPod quit working again, and it won't fix no matter how many times I have tried this. Any other suggestions? Is it common for an AirPod to stop working?

Never had issues with my AirPods first gen, but my AirPods 2 need to be re-paired quite a bit. Are they defective?

bringing this back.. im having this issue where my right airpod loses connection or doesnt connect back after inserting to ear. sometimes putting the airpod in the case fixes it. sometimes i have to put both back and wait a few mins- should i ask apple for replacement?

Im looking for a thread of this continually happening on AirPods Pro no matter what I’ve done.

Resetting the network helped me out! Thanks guys 💯

Doesn't seem like that would get a non-working AirPod working again. It can sort of work around the issue of only using one AirPod if that's needed (but not address the actual issue of one of the AirPods not working/connecting).

None of this worked - tried everything - after 2 years the left side starts great but lasts 15 seconds then off!!! The sad part is that i truly love them and may have to buy the new ones. Somehow I feel royally ripped off!

Try bringing this up at the Apple store, you never know. It just sounds like you got a defective unit. They do sell just one for a discounted price IIRC

True but PITA when it happens at a half marathon.
I can relate. it always happens to me when the case is really far from me. Or when I am on a long troubleshooting call and can’t just pop them into the case or I’ll drop from the call.

“The on-call person just dropped from troubleshooting this severity 1 issue. Call their manager”

🤦

Just happened to me yesterday with a pair of the 'original with wireless charging case' AirPods. I switched from them to speaker and back again, problem solved. YMMV?

Hey all, I had bought my girlfriend 1st or 2nd generation airpods and they worked great for 2 years. The right one stopped working when it was in by itself. The left one would still work by itself when it was in, and they both worked together. We tried literally every method mentioned on the internet. When I was examining the AirPods there is a small hard reset button on each AirPod on the backside. I used a sewing kit needle to push the button in on the right AirPod that wasn’t working by itself, and held it for 5-10 seconds. Then repaired the airpods from my phone back to hers and that fixed the issue.

I hope this helps someone, no tips and tricks I read had this method in there!

✌🏻

There is no reset button on the Airpods...

It's a microphone. Stick a pin in it and ruin them, but sure... Here's something most people don't know: those metal pieces at the bottom of the stalk are a space alien antenna to call the mothership: if you hold both at the bottom of a swimming pool the mothership will come back to get you. It might take a half hour, but bear with it, and it'll work for sure...

Begone!

🤣🤣 whatever I did it worked. They have been working great for 6 hours now. Not ruined one bit.👍🏻

(In case no one has posted this)

I have had it work to drop them both in the case, close it, check the pair, and stick them in and THEY WORK!!!

Not exactly often, but it was at least merciful... I've had to try again once out of desperation, and it worked once or twice. Sometimes is better than never?

I'll try this later. I have the original air pods where only the left pod stops consistently after about 20 seconds of playback. To add, I got the Air Pods Pro that plays poor quality sound when I pair it to M1Pro despite not using its microphone. Because of these issues, I'm not a fan of Apple's Air Pods lineup.

FYI, posting this as it might help others in the future. I'm on my 4th set of AirPods. The first 3 have all exhibited the same behavior, eventually one or the other refuses to connect. It seems to be intermittent and will go away for a while.

I found a solution that has helped in my case. My wallet had a magnet that holds the money into the clip part of it. I believe contacting this magnet was causing the issues, as it would happen after coming into contact with my wallet (or being in the same pocket at least). That wasn't always the cause, but did seem to be what started it at least sometimes.

I bought a carbon fiber money clip to replace the wallet & since then (about one month), I've not had any more issues with one of the AirPods not connecting. Could be totally coincidental, but figured I'd pass it along in case it helps anyone else.
