I got a question that derived from another thread I started:

If I replace my cpu board with an original apple 4,1 board due to damage of CPU socket, will I need at least 1 CPU that is compatible with 4,1 before flashing?

I'm asking this because I got only 2x 3.46 ghz Xeons that came with the board already flashed to 5,1 but nothing else. If I can buy one CPU and flash the board then install the other two I already have would be great.

    Thanks!

The 4,1 to 5,1 upgrade affects only the backplane firmware. You will not need to re-flash when installing a new processor tray in an already-flashed Mac Pro. Your X5600 processors can be installed directly on your new board.

AGhh i wish i had waited for an answer, i just bought two Xeon E5520 on ebay just in case. Well, the cost was $3.5 so no big deal.

IS DVwarehouse a reputable store to buy parts? or would you guys recommend another place to buy the board.
