Since the HomePod is not available in Canada yet, I ordered a Echo as it was on special for $99.95 Canadian.
I have a subscription to SiriusXM online ,internet windows 10 app but found out SiriusXM skill only works in the USA market.

BMO banking skill only allows asking general questions and no ability to do banking.

Alexa misunderstood my questions more often than Siri does on my iPad or iPhone.

So for me no benifit to amazon echo Alexa compared to Siri for how I use voice assistants.
Already processed return after having Echo less than 6 hours

Guess no time frame for HomePod in Canada yet even though it is already April

Anyone here have similar experiences with amazon Alexa

Outside of home automation, I don’t get the appeal of these smart speakers. They don’t do anything my phone or computer can’t.

That said, I have a HomePod and love the thing. But only for its music. I couldn’t give a flying **** about AI and virtual assistants (unless they’re used to control the music)

I have an Echo in my living room, bedroom, and office. I use it to wake me in the morning and listen to Sirius XM all day. I turn on and off all my lights at home, and am getting ready to use it with my Ring doorbells.

I have two HP's and absolutely love them. I use them with Apple Music, $9.99/month and my iTunes Library. Even better, IMO is Siri, that I use for Schlage Sense door locks, Philips Hue lights, and to do verbal internet searches. I have waited for HomePod, eventually hoping to get two more.

While Tiger is right, in that Siri is also available on our phones and computer, the computer is in one room of our house and has to be booted up in order to use Siri. The phone also has Siri, but you have to use your hands to unlock it. It is really nice to walk downstairs with a bag of trash and say "HeySiri, unlock the back door" or "HeySiri, turn on the upstairs bedroom lights" when walking up the steps or "HeySiri, how many Tablespoons in a quarter cup" when your hands are deep in bread dough. We are rapidly getting spoiled using a voice assistant.

We considered Alexa, but both Alexa/Echo and Google Home collect data to save, use, and sell. We waited for the HP, as no data is saved nor is any personally identifiable information collected. That privacy is well worth the price of the HP for us.

I hope you get HP soon, or can get one from the US and smuggle it across the border ;) You will enjoy it.
