Hey guys, i have a question. A week ago i bought a macbook from a friend of mine. He was getting a new macbook pro and wanted to get rid of his old one so he sold it to me. The computer is a white macbook. the polycarbonated one. He made a copy of everything on his computer to a external Hard drive. But now i want to basically erase everything that is on it. Is there a simple way i can do that just format it. I have no cds to put back anything. I just want it to be the way it came out of the box. Thank a lot i appreciate it :D

how do i get the install disks from apple. Do they need any specific information from me. So if I were to get these disks how would i got with formatting my macbook? is there a simple way?

there talking about the osx disks. your friend has them. they give u a copy when u buy the computer. you basically erase everything on the hd then put the disk in and boot the computer up and install. this is so you start fresh and have no junk files that have collected over time. you can find out exactly how to do this on apples site. search erase and re install in the support section

As said many times above you need to get the restore CDs from your friend.

Otherwise just make a new account, then delete his user folder. You can get a free app called appcleaner to erase any of his old apps you dont want.

OK, after i get those cds, how can i reformat the the hard disk. Can someone give a step by step of doing this. i have never done this before. Sorry. this is my first mac so i have never done this. I appreciate. Thank you.:D

Look at this guide: http://macs.about.com/od/applications/ss/diskutilformat.htm

And use MRoogle, as your question has been answered more often than there are words in this post.

Btw, a more specific and descriptive thread title (for future endeavours) could get you more answers.

Also have a look at the following links, as the information presented there might be helpful in your future endeavours into Mac OS X and could clear up initial confusion and may even prevent harm to your system or your files.
