I guess the inclusion of gapless in the next iPod will depend on how many of the gazillions of iPod owners out there complain about it. I get the feeling that even when you see frequent complaints on forums, it's not actually that big a contingent when counted as a percentage of iPod owners.

I would imagine that the only reason the majority of iPod owners don't complain about this problem is that they've simply not experienced it before. The first time I listened to a gap-less recording on an iPod I spent half an hour fiddling with the settings trying to correct it, then came to the conclusion that the device was broken. I still find it difficult to believe that Apple, with its deserved reputation for imbuing its products with a superb user experience, would allow a product to market with such an obvious flaw.

did you play the CD or imported songs in iTunes? I just checked as well with the soundtrack from gladiator and it has a gap with crossfade and all the bells and whistles turned off (sound check and such)

IMPORTED SONGS IN iTUNES :) playing over airport xpress to a stereo...

The no gapless playback issue annoys me too. I recently bought an alpine cda9857 headunit with ipod support and started ripping my cds as 1 long track with chapter marks. Pressing next on the ipod skips to the next chapter mark which is great but when i connected my girlfriends ipod to the headunit to test everything out i found that the next button on the headunit skips doesn't skip the chapter marks it skips to the next track! So i still haven't bought an ipod, i'm hanging out for gapless.

Please use the iPod feedback link in my sig to let apple know that you want gapless playback too!
