This is a sad story of having to wait in queue here in the SF flaship store.

On launch day I waited 2 hours only to find out that the person in front of me got the last model that I was considering to purchase. I thought, no worries, they must be repleneshing the store on a daily basis, since that's what the signs in the front indicated as well as the apple employees.

Every morningsince then, I've passed the same apple store Anne there's literally 200+ people in queue by 8:00am.

I thought that I should give it a go today and got in line at 6:00am. I was the 30th person in line, so I figured that there may be a chance to get one. Same as before, the line had a queue of 200+ peeps.

By the time the store opened 3 hours later, the first 10 peeps ended up buying all of the inventory, with each of them leaving with two or more iPads. The Apple employee told us that they would get a shipment at 10:30.

I thought, 'No worries, they will get new inventory in half an hour, I guess I should wait.'. It turns out that, again, the next 10 custies purchase the last of the newly received iPads. Keep in mind that as long as you present a business card, you can purchase a large amount of iPads from the Apple store, as long as it's considered a business purchase. We were then notified that the next shipment will be on Next Tuesday.

After waiting for over 4 hours on a rainy day today, I can honestly say that it was a fun experience since I had a chance to speak to some nice people in queue. The thing that ruined it though, is the lack of limiting the iPad purchase to one per custy.

Before, when you had a couple of people being upset because they couldn't make a purchase because of a lack of CCs, now you have over 200 potential customers leaving quite upset empty handed.

I learned my lesson and ordered mine online as soon as I got home. I honestly recommend doing ordering online or looking somewhere else, because the whole queue thing was out of order. There really is no point In waiting in line when those in front would just buy a large amount to resell them online.

I ordered early; 12:51am on launch day and while all my accessories have arrived, my iPad 2 is still not due to arrive until the 24th according to FedEx.

It's a bit disappointing to order early and still wait two weeks. Actually really disappointing. I see others have received their orders but no indication of what model.

I ordered ATT 64gb Wifi + 3G black.

Glad I didn't wait in line but I've got this crappy feeling that I could probably walk into one of the Vegas stores next week early and get one.

It's not like it is a life-or-death matter but a two week wait after ordering 9 minutes early to pre-release is pretty crummy!

Proof that these people are either scalpers, or transplants - native New Yorkers don't wait on line.

First impressions; it is lighter and thinner, it has cameras. So we loaded a few games, and I could not detect any major increase in performance, except that the games ran well considering I spent the remaining 4 minutes closing all the running apps; which from what I could tell was every single app on the device.

Apparently you don't understand how muti-tasking and the task switcher works on IOS devices? Why would you go through and close all those apps. They were not all running.

Then in an amazing display of ignorance the customers brag how much money Apple has, as though it will benefit them.

Apparently you want the companies whose products you buy to have no money and resources? That makes perfect sense, lol. You must be a business major!

Apple did a good job of proving the value of smoke & mirrors trickery. Fox has taken a page out of the Apple play book.

To keep the headlines from all directions focused on Apple, the company gets free coverage.

Apple takes, their customers give. Apple Wins. Always.

When I give Apple money I actually get a product in return. Shocking, I know.

If you want to engage in nonsensical trolling against Apple (which doesn't really work these days even at the worst of times), then you're on the wrong website.

Apple has erected barriers to contain the line, and once the line reaches the end of the barriers each day after stock has been distributed, no new customers are permitted to join the line.
Permitted to join the line? Apple has really done it this time. I bet the guys at :apple: HQ enjoy watching the line of people who want to join the line.

What's a real shame is people like you summing it up to race. "Asians." Really? I'm Asian (Korean, actually) and that doesn't mean I'm hoarding them to ship overseas. You can't just say "4 people"? I'm not going to go around saying "African-Americans/Caucasians/Rednecks are hoarding GSM iPads."

I've been going to early openings as well as ordering online and I couldn't get out of work during the 5pm sale last Friday to wait like others have. I just want it for myself. There are others like said eBayers who "hoard" these items for ridiculous sales. More power to the people who buy them as well as people who sell them, but don't lump us all in one basket because you "saw Asians."

That's a common logic flaw that causes so much trouble in our society... While it's true that most asians have nothing to do with all the iPads being sent overseas, the majority of these people sending them overseas are asian, so him pointing out that fact is in no way insulting. Inc haters in 3... 2... 1... GO!

Not that I take claim of certainty as a comm studies major; this is simply a practice to remain revelant among news where a headline of catastrophe is featured around the world, titled: Japan.

That is horrible, to bad they are in such short supply. I usually go to Vegas to visit family during Easter, that looks like the venitan hotel I won't go there if it is packed. Well alls well that ends well I got mine last Friday lol

It's the shopping mall inside Caesar's Palace, it has a few similarities with the design of the smaller mall across the strip at the Venetian.

Launch day in Austin, 2 friends and I were drinking down on 6th street. We walked up to the popup Apple shop at about 10.30pm at night. Only 5 people in the line. Walked in, bought iPad and cover, back out. Easy peasy.

Amazed I was able to get one on launch day. Few friends got theirs the following day/night. Austin had thousands of them to sell. :)

Brought it back to the UK and making everyone jealous. The fact it cost £330 in USA (including tax), and its £439 here. Massive saving :)

Timing of inventory

I'm glad I took the chance to wait in line on opening Friday. I waited from 3:45pm to 6:45pm in Milwaukee. Everything went smoothly, but I did have to edit my choice to Verizon from AT&T.

Not counting the potential supply shortages that may result from the Japan tragedy, managing how many products to bring in, and when, is an extremely tough process. It's not only about demand. Even a cash rich company like Apple can risk millions of dollars by bringing out even slightly too many, or too few units.

I bet sales were way above their estimates, we will have to wait and see.

MOst are probably scalpers ready to flip it on ebay im sure! lol

Actually come to think of it, most everyone on that line was a scalper :D

That sucks. I ordered mine (ATT 32 GB WiFI w/engraving) around 4:10 EST on launch day. Mine is currently listed as being at the FEDEX sorting center in my area. It is still listed as arriving on Tuesday the 22nd but hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. If it doesn't, oh well. I think I'll survive if I don't get it for another day. ;)

No way, I'll be hanging out every day at Apple Stores, Best Buys, or Walmart. I don't have the time nor the patience to be doing that. But hey, to each is his own. If people wanna wait and hang out every day to get something that they will be paying for with their hard earned money, go for it.

I really don't buy into all the conspiracy theory stuff about Apple deliberately holding back supply and stuff to continue to build up demand. If they are, I would say brilliant on their part. No one is forcing anybody to go out and wait or to go online and order anything.

IPad 2 in Singapore

I was at Sim Lim in Singapore and they were selling the 16Gb wifi only model for $850US.

Quite a mark up. Don't know how many they had or even if they were genuine. Chances are they were. Singapore of all the countries in Asia comes down hard on copying.

Still it does add weight to the theory of many people queuing to make a buck by reselling overseas.

I wasn't tempted to buy, hopefully they will release here soon and mean while I have the original anyway.

Very nice! I picked up my iPhone 4 here in Canada on launch day in similar fashion.
