I tried the Files On Demand feature when it was first introduced and found that it caused very high CPU for no reason.
This was a common complaint for this feature at the time, so I just switched it off and carried on managing files and folders manually.

Since then, OneDrive has had very many updates and upgrades and I am wondering whether the On Demand feature now works as it should.

Does any of you use this feature successfully on a Mac?

BTW, I am still on Mojave and I have almost 1TB of data on my OneDrive.

One of my organizations uses it heavily and I've heard no complaints. I personally have it enabled on a 2013 Mac Pro and a 2017 15" and again no problem.

Thank you all. Time to try again.

By the way, I couldn’t find any information on how it will behave if the disk gets full.
Will it offload less used files and folders automatically or is manual intervention required?
