Great news. :) I wonder if Microsoft will raise the price of the subscription over this increase.

It is a real shame that Apple won't do better with their iCloud Drive setup.

Microsoft has at least 2 years more experience, iCloud Drive is new and parts of it are still Beta.

I use OneDrive for about 2 weeks now ( jumped on the offer for 30GB free storage ) on OS X, Windows and iOS. Up to now I did not have a single issue. Everything is clear, well documented and functional, it just does what it should do. Perfect for me :) .

With OneDrive I even can provide public static links for sharing or downloading:

Running my OneDrive host on Windows, I can remote access every file on the computer(s), even when they are not stored in the shared folders ( = not part of my OneDrive ), in case I have the occasional need for it.

I don't think I will use iCloud Drive later, I already have what I "need" - for free. IMO OneDrive is a very good product and I will not move out Microsoft from my "ecosystem" anyways.

Zero-cost is always welcome, not forgetting hidden costs, but it'll be nice if Apple can do something truly innovative (something more than 'free') with storage.

For what it's worth, highly speculative:

Location independent files (patent application by Apple)
    – the unusually long opening post reflects the length of time over which the original posts were made. (It took me a few weeks, occasional reading of small parts, to begin to get my head around the application. I sat on archives of discussions for a few months before sharing a selection.) More easily digestible: post #2, a brief response to similar speculation by macenied.

May I ask, does OneDrive store any files on a server so that I can then delete it from my local drive and still have it in the cloud? Basically does it do the opposite of iCloud Drive, haha.

You can do both with OneDrive. You can synchronize files and you can store them in the cloud only.

I wish iCloud can be unlimited too. We spent so much money buying Apple products. That is far more expensive than spending $99 per year on Office 365.

Unlimited space ... I changed my mind completely how to use cloud storage when I started to really implement it.

My point is: What is it worth to have 1TB or more storage space in a cloud when it takes ages to upload the data, synchronized or not ?

Initially I planned to dump all my music and videos into the cloud, everything I want to share but nothing private. I don't do. Now I use the cloud for selected data I really "need" and for this 30GB is more than enough.

    My $0.02.
