yeah but look at OnePlus and their phones. They have been very consistent with fast updates to their phones and Oxygen OS. Anytime an issue has been discovered they are quick to push an update to fix it.

Not sure about the others you mentioned. But OPO has been very quick with updates and features on the OnePlus phones and OxygenOS

It's true that they left behind OPX and OP2. OP2 was a complete failure, and OP is a small company. OPX on the other hand used older gen processor, but then again, you can update it yourself by using custom roms. And everything works like a charm.
That is no excuse for OP. I have been critic of OP because lack of updates. But with OP3 and OP3T they have proved they can update the phones. And not just update, but be faster and better at updating them then HTC, Samsung, etc.
So I went from a critic, to a praise for OP. But only if they continue to do like they are doing now. If they fail at any time, I will criticise them once again.

Yep, they did drop the ball with OP2 and OPX, but it seems like and I surely hope they've learned from those times. How long OP3 and OP3T are supported is a good indicator. Let's see how far those devices make it.

I would have liked them to be more daring and release more colours ... It feels for a company whose motto is 'never settle', they are playing very very safe and very settled.

They have to settle here. Producing wider range of colors = expenses. And they are trying to cut their expenses wherever possible. So I get why they are doing that.
But as far as 'never settle' goes, imho, only true 'never settle' phone from OP was the first OP1. After that things are changing every year. OP3/T could fit into 'never settle' category as well, but I highly doubt we will ever see anything like those two phones again.
OP is growing. I just hope that they don't grow to fast. If they grow slower, we will get more excellent phones with somewhat lower prices. Too fast? Well, then OP will be just another brand in the block 🙂
P.S.
If I can judge by my own country, OP5 is not even near OP3/T popularity. And I love that it isn't. It looks like it's in the category of OP2. OP2 was a complete failure of the phone, while I find OP5 to be a great device. But I'm not sorry if it is failing... This will just remind OP that they have to do harder, and slow down on increasing prices.

I don't think they need a wide range, but they have been following Apple colour conventions too long it just feels like they are playing too safe. Even the OP5 colour options lack originality and follow the tried and tested once more.
Trying to make out this gold version is 'limited' in order to adhere a more desirable luster to the humdrum colour choice just comes across to me as a little desperate.
They had an opportunity to make a genuine limited edition and offer a colour they never offered before. They could have offered the vibrant red / black front combo, or a sapphire blue or even sand blasted emerald green.
Instead they played it so safe, the whole internet just went meh!!! Which is counter productive for drawing attention to both the device and the brand.

Well, I'm a total addict now. I ordered a OnePlus 5 8gb variant last week and tried to cancel it before it shipped. I was too late. So I figured I'd go ahead and take delivery of it and check it out. So here's a quick 16hr impression after it arrived yesterday afternoon.
A) love the size and light weight. Feels like a quality device and ALL Android phones should have an alert slider
B) fast! Charged it up to full quickly too.
C) battery life is the best I've ever seen. I'm currently at 50% on the first cycle and have 3hr 11m SOT . I've been streaming music, downloading apps, setting things up, playing games, etc and this thing is rocking along
D) camera is better than the hate it's gotten. Can definitely get great shots out of it. Just have to work a bit harder than with the S8 or my Pixel XL. I like it
Returned the LG G6 and probably returning the Galaxy S8. I'll have to decide if I'm going to keep this or not. Leaning towards yes and selling the XL while I wait for the second gen Pixels to come out.

I'm averaging 6:30h SoT during 2 days of use after last update. Least I've got is 5h15min, and the most is almost 8h. But almost always around 6h30min, so I guess I will take that as average for this phone 🙂
Well, after OP3/T, they are by far the best android maker out there. For me at least. It depends on what you are looking to get from the phone I guess 🙂

So curiosity got the better of me... I went and had a play today with the One Plus 5 and LG G6 and Google Pixel, the Pixel to me seemed to have an overly saturated screen.
I didn't like it, the design is good though and the finger print scanner is easy to find, but that screen was not for me and I couldn't change it bar the brightness as it was locked down in the store mode.
The G6, looked a bit meh to me, screen very sharp though and the colours aren't bad, didn't play with the camera and it sure felt laggy and slow, not for me because.......
I also played with the One Plus 5, the 64GB model and after I concluded it's currently the best hardware design Android phone on the market!
It has a really sleek feel in the hand, and the screen on the DPI3 I think? mode is stunning, it really helps smooth out that over saturation from OLED screen, I really liked its screen size and the bezel free edges.
The thing is stupidly fast I felt! That's why the G6 felt like a tortoise after! So smooth and snappy. The vibration on the solid state home button however isn't a patch on Apples iPhone 7 and just felt weird.
The camera I felt was also a let down, it was inside the store so artificial lighting that wasn't the best and their was noise on the photos I took of the other phones and display stands. But I did look at the manual mode and got things a bit better but I don't know what half the things do!
Oh and as for the silent switch on the side, why doesn't every phone have one?? It's a simple but damn useful thing to have!!
So yeah, in my book it's the One Plus 5 hands down, I know in good light the camera performs well due to the photos on here, and I think they will improve its low light performance. It's pretty easy to use too.
I'm still not sold on these bezel free handsets...

Yeah, I agree with you. I loved the OnePlus 5 when I had it for all those reasons, but when I had it, the camera was enough of a let down to me so I had to sell it. Love love love oxygen OS and the speed of the phone.

Even though I don't have too much bad to say about the device itself, OnePlus as a company is starting to really annoy me. I know they've had more than their fair share of past mistakes, but I've put most of that off as a young company's initial missteps, but when they're flat out lying to their customers about security features, that's when I drop my gloves.
I'm talking about the Secure Box functionality they've added to OxygenOS. It turns out that the functionality does maybe 25% of what it's promised to do and there's absolutely no encryption despite the site telling us so. Sure, a flaw gets past QA occasionally, but in this case a bug report about the issue has been closed as "works as designed", even though the website keeps advertising non-existent encryption while the company has no intention to actually implement the functionality properly. Seriously OnePlus, security is one thing where you just don't dick around like this.
