I think i found it, "process viewer". Ran it and the program with no other programs running...

kind of weird results...ram usage on that program runs inbetween 100megs and 400megs...

There does not seem to be a direct correlation between a certain process in the program causing a increased/decreased ram usage, it just seems to use more/less ram, cycling up and down over a period of 40-50secs. or so. for no apparent reason.

So i was thinking of purchasing a 200 PIN DDRSO-DIMM upgrade 512MB for 55.99 or should i splurge ( i'm not sure if its necessary) for a 1GB for 139.99?

Wow, those are great prices, especially for the gig. 1 vote for the 1GB!

Welcome to the forum! This area of the forum is great for us newbies. Seems like you will always find an answer from someone, just ask! :)

What should one do when their beloved iBook fails to turn on? I have taken out the battery and tried to run it from the adapter to no avail. I have put the battery back in and have tried to run it, alas nothing is happening! No whirr of the harddrive begining to spin. I am going to take it to the Apple store in hopes to get it fixed but I wont have time this week. So if any of you have any idea on how to trouble shoot this please fire away.

On another note, I graduated last Sunday and recieved a 60gb iPod Photo from my family! I have a tendency to go on very long road trips. This weekend I am headed to L.A a six hour drive from Santa Cruz (where i go to school). I was wondering what adapters are best to use in the car? My car stereo has been replaced to accomodate CD's, however, there is no plug for headphones. I was wondering how well does the iPod FM tuner work? and if their are any other ways of having the iPod play on my car stereo?

Thanks so much you guys!

Claudia

Why is the underside of my PB so hot? It's not the battery (although it's warm) it is the RAM compartment. I purchased Samsung branded stix (2 - 1 GB). Could the RAM be defective?

I am sure this has been asked a million times, but thought an answer in the newbie section would be nice.

How do I use my ipod shuffle with my Apple itunes library and my PC itunes library? Is there a way?

I dont have a shuffle but from what i read in the user manual of my iPod Photo is that one is unable to transfer songs between PCs and Macs. So, when you have your Mac playlists on your iPod Photo and you want to get some of your PC playlists on the same iPod Photo, the Mac playlists are deleted and vice versa. I dont know if this really helps you at all.

This is usually a fairly serious problem.... :( The only thing I can suggest is try to start it while holding command-option-P-R. (all four keys together). You can press the power button and then switch right to these keys. Hold them down until you hear a long chime, if you do.... This resets the power management system.

What you must do is set the iPod to be manually updated on *both* computers, by plugging it in, and then going to the iTunes preferences / iPod pane. Then, you can drag and drop songs from both computers to the Shuffle.

Since it is only a 512 shuffle, it doesn't have a lot of room. Will your idea work?

I don't even think that works. A friend of mine has an HP Media Center and I plugged my 'Pod into it - it told me it must restore the iPod software (and thus erase all data) even though it was enabled for disk use.

If you have a non-Shuffle iPod, it must be formatted in the Windows format. AFAIK, iPod Shuffles always use the same format, so that they can work as USB drives.

To Advance -- yes, I don't think the size of the iPod has anything to do with anything. You just, obviously, cannot drag more songs onto it than it can hold. ;) And of course there's no easy way to do a random fill that includes songs from both computers.

My bad - I missed the part about the shuffle.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be offensive about the newb thing. I meant it as a general term for all the people who ask questions about Mac stuff (including me some of the time :p ).

As for Expose, open some windows from many different apps and then press F9, F10 or F11. The best way of discovering Expose's immense greatness is to use it, it's really far too hard to explain well.
Hold shift and click after hitting F9 or F10 to make it go in slow motion
Hold shift and click the left or right side after hitting F11 for slow motion
Hold shift and press F9 or F10 or F11 for slow motion also

TIGER:
hold shift and press F12 for slow motion

What's interesting for me, is that i am running Tiger, however, when i used the "hold shift and press F12 for slow motion" it doesnt work although, the other commands worked perfectly.

A voice started mimicking everything I'm doing on the PB. WTH?! It is so annoying, how do I turn it off? Why did it turn on?

Check System Preferences -> Universal Access -> VoiceOver (the first item in the Seeing tab) to make sure that it is off.

As for why it turned on, most likely explanation is you did it by accident, second most likely is there's a ghost living inside your computer. ;)

Command + F5 turns it on and off.

hmm... what can i do about dead pixels on a new iMac. Its less than 2 months old??? Any advice.... ]- :

Ahhh, yeah, I see that now. On most of the notebooks, that's Fn-Cmd-F5, since F5 is a volume key, so it's hard to hit by accident!

Was that the issue then, or was it something else?

hi all!

I've posted on the forums once before to ask about compatibility and...I finally made the Switch today! I am the proud owner of a 12" PB. My only problem is learning how to wire my Internet to the PB.

I have AOL 9.0 on a home wireless network connected to a central cable modem. The nice people at the apple store installed my .mac and MSoffice products, so they bypassed the initial internet setup at startup. I've gotten the PB to recognize my home wireless network...but it can't connect to the internet b/c there's no ISP (AOL) for it to work through. How am I supposed to get AOL for OS X onto the PB if I can't even get to the internet to download it? As always, any and all thoughts/suggestions are appreciated...I'm fairly good with computers, but am baffled by this.

Jade, I'm not that familiar with AOL... so even though you have a router in your wireless network, you still need the AOL software on each computer? In any event, if you don't have an AOL dvd around (wow, so y'all who actually buy AOL service aren't inundated with those dvd's in the mail??? :D ) can you download the Mac AOL software from one of your other computers, from AOL's website, and then burn a CDR? The Mac will be able to read it.

jadex

I've got AOL on the PC I'm using, my iBooks not connected yet.
Hace you tried downloading AOL for mac on another computer, and then transferring it accross by a USB drive/CD or something like that??

Thankfully we're moving from AOL, and really thats what I would reccomend you to do!!
