Was thinking of ordering the base 15” from the online store, which would be delivered on Monday to see how it compares to the 13” MBP I received last week...if I were to keep the 13” MBP would I be able to return the base 15” to a physical Apple store?

Sorry if this is a silly question but the online store just says you can drop it off at pickup points.

I was actually wondering what macmall’s Return policy is. Will they charge me a restocking fee on MacBooks that are opened and used? B&H doesn’t even accept returns on MacBooks. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Or are there better alternatives to macmall and b&h when it comes to return policy?

I've gotten mixed messages doing this. One time I tried to do a return from an online store and they told me they cannot process it. Another time they did. I don't know if things changed in the span of time between those attempts, or its up to the manager's discretion. I'd maybe ask your local apple store person and see what they say

google is your friend. Its quite easy to actually find that information. It literally took me less time to find that information then it did for you to type a post 😉

Returns & Refunds

MacMall prides itself on a tradition of outstanding customer care and support. Our devoted team of account representatives understands that our customers are the hallmark of our enduring partnerships.

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return most items within 14 days of the date of shipment. We will exchange items or give you a refund for the full amount of your order. All returned items must be in their original box and include packing material, manuals and all accessories.

At MacMall’s discretion, a restocking fee may be charged if your product is opened or is not returned in its original condition, box or is missing packing material, manuals or any accessories.

It’s interesting that I couldn’t find anything online to confirm it either...was just wondering what other peoples’ experience of trying this has been and from what you said, it appears success can be variable.

I literally googled "macmall return policy" and that link came right up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Its been my experience that when ever you see a company provide reasons to insist on a restocking fee, they will more likely use that excuse then not. If you buy the computer, the normal thing is to use it, and then you find out that its not for you. Its opened, so now MacMall can hide behind their written policy and charge you a restocking fee. I've not purchased a computer from them, but given what's written I'd personally be hesitant. Other people can chime in and refute my assumptions with actual experiences, that's fine but if its written, you need to assume you will be charged the restocking fee if you return it opened

Sorry if I wasn’t clear...I was talking about my original question that you answered 😀

Sorry, I've only had one cup of coffee. My apologies

As for apple, you can try calling them, but like I said, I've had issues trying to return an online purchase.

I returned my BTO 15” yesterday and there were no questions asked whatsoever.

I initially had a question until I went to initiate a return online and the first screen says something like “return by mail” or “return to store”.

When I purchased a BTO 27" iMac last year (from the online store) I was able to return it to my local Apple Store. When I talked to them on the phone about returning it, they were telling me about getting it to a shipping center and I asked if it would be possible to return it to the Apple Store. They told me that yes I could.

Unfortunately, they never contacted the local Apple store about me wanting to return it there. When I got to the store they were asking me what I was there for and if I had purchased the iMac from the store. After I told them what they told me on the phone, they ended up phoning the online store and after some back and forth talk for a bit they ended up processing my return.

(I was still mainly using my MBP which is why I returned the iMac.)

Good to know, thanks.

Anything you buy from Apple online, whether it be refurbished or new, you can ALWAYS return to any Apple-owned store, no questions asked. I've done it many times, never had one single problem. And if returning your item to a brick and mortar store is not possible, you can get on Apple.com and arrange a return online and they'll send you a free return label (FedEX or UPS) and then you just drop your package off at a FedEx or UPS location and you're done. Anyone that tells you any different is wrong. It's all detailed on Apple's website. Of course, this only applies to returns in the U.S. at Apple-owned stores. Outside the U.S., I have no idea how the return process works.

Yeah I’m in the UK so not it may not be so straightforward?

I was under the impression that if one orders online and elects to initially collect the computer from a store, then that establishes the relationship of the product with Apple Retail and allows it to be returned for a refund at the store also.

Yes but I wouldn’t be doing that 🙁

I notice you're in London, so just have them collect it from you.

I ordered the Blackmagic eGPU online and then returned it by having them come to collect it from me, free of charge, for a full refund.
