Why is that a "low move"? If the company is broke, it's broke, the options have no value and the capital structure has to be modified significantly.

What about all the investors who lost their chance of a profit? It seems so easy, go bankrupt and continue on with the same company and management but no debt.

I feel bad for those folks who lost their jobs. Doesn't give me much hope with the reliability of everything in the cloud. It was cool that I was able to play some pc games on the Air without needing a dedicated gpu. Oh well.

Like reported before, OnLive has allegedly been bought by an unnamed 3rd party.. if this is true, and let's say the business continues after significant restructuring, will it still be called ONLIVE??

The game prices (a few years ago - not sure now) weren't significantly cheaper than their physical media siblings, or in some cases compared to a clearance or Steam sale, much more expensive, so I never saw the incentive to use OnLive as a paid service.

And this is where I'd say a service like this failed. Why would I pay almost hte same amount of money for a game I didn't own, just paid to be able to use? All that means is that they could suddenly take it away from me for whatever reason.

If I were to use a service like that, I'd expect the pay for use of games to be significantly cheaper than paying to own the game.

i read that onlive only had something like 1600 users and 8000 servers. i guess all the internet hype they bought didn't work.

I saw this coming when they announced OnLive years ago and this is EXACTLY the reason why, even though i thought the idea of OnLive was awesome, i was NEVER going to purchase anything through them, at least with STEAM i have a copy of the game on my HDD and can run it in offline mode if they ever shut up shop, with OnLive, when they decide the servers are going down, wave bye bye to your games, even though you only bought them recently.

Now, had they done a deal with the publishers, say, that allowed me to put in my CD key from a boxed copy of the game and play it through OnLive, and charged a monthly Netflix like sub for the service, i think they may have had a better chance of surviving, at least doing it that way they would have had a revenue stream to keep the servers and employees paid.

"The onlive service is not shutting down"

Does not convey the same message as:

"A new company will be formed and the management of the company will be in contact with you about the current initiatives in place, including the titles that will remain on the service."

Sounds more like financial restructuring than anything else.
"OMFG! We're not making any money :("
"Gotta cut costs, init. LOLZ"
"Let's close the company. Sack everyone. Immediate cost reduction."
"Then we start a new company, same products, just fewer staff."
"WIN! LOLZ".

The news comes just over a week after he sold the firm's assets to a venture capital firm, wiping out its investors' stakes and its staff's share rights.

I wonder if he plundered some cash on his way out....would not surprise me at all...many of these scumbag executives do that sort of thing....screw the staff and steal whatever they can on the way out.
