Apple must be making less profit off the low end MacBook Pro because the student discount is now only $100 ($1899) when it used to be $200 ($1799). It seems though the mid level Macbook Pro is still $200 off for students.
Yup. Apple is now being cheap and wants to screw students out of their finical aid. Am I cynical enough? But that's right and it's royally messed up.
Try taking a trip to your local Apple store, I bought an MBP yesterday and got $200 off. I guess no one told the salesman they cut the discount, you might get lucky like I did.
I compared the baseline MBP with upgraded ram (4Gb) and a 7200 rpm 250gb hdd to the mid 2.53ghz mbp. Seeing as the student discount is greater with the 2.53ghz mbp version, the difference between the two notebooks turns out to be about 200 dollars (the difference is actually less since I downgraded the HDD in the 2.53ghz mbp to a 250gb 7200 rpm hdd). For 200 bucks, I went with the mid MBP seeing as i get a faster cpu, more cache, and more vram (eventhough I know that the extra vram does make much of a difference). Im excited!!!
