Only 40 GB free???

    I have a macbook air running ML on its 120 GB I have recently been stripping everything out to make space

    Applications 7.5GB
    Library 4.2 GB
    System 5.5 GB
    Users 11.1

    total 28.3 GB

    yet I only have 46GB free??

    any help?

    Go to the Apple in the menubar - press on About This Mac.

    In the window that opens click the storage tab & check how much is showing under backups.

    How much space was there before stripping the unused files? Did you simply move files to trash and delete or you used apps?

    It happened to me where I used some app to 'erase free disk space' and got my hard drive full even though there was nothing on it.
