I have 4GB of ram installed on my iMac but when I start up windows it tells me I only have 2.3GB. Is this normal?

It sounds like you are running a 32bit version of Windows....

Unless you are running a 64bit version of Windows you wont see all the ram... :( only the 2.3...

32bit versions see up to 4GB, any more above needs 64bit system to be seen. So it's not that.

That's normal because the 32 bit version can only use around 3.7 GB of regular ram + video RAM. My macbook has 8 GB ram and a nvideo 9400, i guess 256 mb video RAM, and only see 2.3 GB. Apple has some other limitations that take a whopping 1.4 GB of integrated video RAM.

64 bit windows will see and use the full 8 GB.
