only possible to install 4.1?

hello can someone help me please
here's my situation:

i just bought an used 3gs 3.1.3 (950 in sn so new bootrom i guess) with jailbreak and unlock
i didn't plan to update the firmware at all i just wanted to delete the pics and apps and music on it.
so i did a reset from settings->general (f'in bad idea..) it froze during the process now it gets stuck on the apple logo after the spinning circle appears. tried irecovery but it didn't help.

it is possible to fix it?
it is possible to reinstall 3.1.3 or 4.0.1 or only 4.1?
it is possible to install them without upgrading the baseband (seen some tutorials using umbrella)?
i saved some shsh blobs with umbrella before i reset it but ofcourse they are for 4.1 (4.0 are no longer apple signed)

if someone explains this i would greatly appreciate..

You may want to try 4.01 which can still be signed(I think) and jailbroken with Jailbreakme.com?

unfortunately that is not the case. i guess ill update to 4.1.
anyway, i read somewhere that if i use tinyumbrella as validation server it wont update the baseband, is it true?
 
well i updated to 4.1 and now i have another big problem: activation
the previous owner was on orange (and the phone is probably locked on orange) im on orange too so i thought there will be no problems but apple does not activate it.
i tried DVD Jon's iPhone Activation Server but it was not updated for new itunes and i found out that phonebook sim activation was patched.
are there any solutions left or im ***** screwed?
btw im from romania
 
Are you also using Orange but in a different country than what the phone was originally purchased at?
You can get a sim from the carrier that the phone is locked to in order to activate it. Check ebay, even prepaid or inactive sims will do the trick.

that is indeed the problem!

wow i would never tohught that one simple reset will cause so many problems.

Yea, he's on a 3GS so he updated the baseband, so now he cannot unlock it to use it either.
He just created a paperweight !

Why do people go off half cocked and rush into things they cannot undo ?
I have never understood that !

if you read everything you will see that the phone was unusable and the only firmware i could install was 4.1.
so... what was the better option?
and the phone is locked for Orange RO?

I'm afraid wait is your option we are hoping the new JB will come out this week but nobody knows for sure. with out SHSH Blobs you are stuck for now i am afraid.. original owner should have saved the Blobs then there would be options butwith out them all you can do is wait. :(

i understood that. i hoping that i could activate it with an orange fr sim an use it with my orange ro sim without unlocking (locking to be international). but i guess they are just diffrent networks :((

EDIT: usually how long does it take to develop a unlock exploit?
(not me lol it was unclear)

Yes, that's not possible.
It won't work with any other sim unless you unlock.

It wasn't un-usable when you got it.
As I said before, it was being in a hurry before researching that caused a problem.
