Another phone which I'm sure wont end up on Sprint (CDMA). I tell you, I might end up on another network (GSM) if the disparity between the two carriers keeps getting worse.

You'll never see a Sprint phone with Itunes support considering they rolled out their own music service for the phones Oct 31st. So if I want to get an itunes phone, gonna have to ditch sprint. Which I prob will do itunes or not.

I, too wish Verizon would pick up some cool phones. Unfortunately for Verizon customers, the future for cellular service appears to be GSM... Verizon is a CMDA company with no real reason to switch, and the phone manufacturers are making phones for the new(er) network tech. Verizon probably wouldnt switch because it would alienate their customers. I just wish that they'd add GSM capabilities to their network and slowly transition over a period of 10 years or so.

Im just really pissed because we only have a choice of Verizon or Sprint service where we live. Otherwise I would have gone with Cingular or TMobile (because of GSM and better phones and better rates too... 1500 min for 39.99 at TMobile... I get 1000 shared for $90/month   )
If you ask a Verizon rep. they will tell you CDMA is better because for every one CDMA tower, it takes 7 GSM towers to cover the same area.
Don't know if it's true, that's just what they told me. Either way it doesn't get me a good phone.

Verizon phones suck partly for the same reason that they will NEVER get the Razr. Verison uses a CDMA network, it is an unfortunate fact that CDMA phones have to be a bit bigger and especial have 2-4 times the battery drain as GSM phone. The Razr is a GSM phone and the hardware to make it CDMA would simply not fit in that case. Even if they did get it in there, the battery life would suck compared to the current Razr. That is part of the reason Verizon phones suck, CDMA phones in general are just behind the times and Verizon can't fix that.

However they do make them worse by crippling my bluetooth. Ah well, I get a big discount to go through Verizon because they have a deal with my university (staff only, not students, but my dad is staff).

Well, I know nothing of this Verizon company but Moto is about to release a CDMA EV-DO RAZR. Says so in Forbes, along with the new V3i and a pink version of the RAZR.

"This Verizon Company" is America's best Cellular provider in terms of coverage. It used to be the largest until AT&T and Cingular "merged."
This is why it is surprising they don't have good phones, they are the best when it comes to service, but the phones that carry are terrible.
I heard about a Verizon RAZR, but chances are it will be over priced and under-featured.

Well it looks like I am wrong about the Razr coming to Verizon. Although the delay of bringing it out for CDMA may still be that it is harder to get CDMA in a small package. But what do I know, I am just a consumer, not an engineer (yet).

Doesn't Sprint use some sort of propitary PCS network or something?

It's possible... all I know is that in Pike County, GA there is no GSM service or Nextel Service for that matter, so if you want a cell phone that works in the county, you'd better be using a CMDA phone (Verizon). There is GSM service in Griffin, Ga (about 10 or so miles away from my house) so the future for GSM in the area is good. (Plus we dont have cable tv or internet, and there is no DSL out there... so its either t1 or sat.- which wouldnt be bad for tv, but sat internet is expensive :( )

I know that most of the rest of the world is using or will shortly be using GSM.... It's huge in Europe and Japan. I agree with you that whether or not its true, it doesnt get me a good phone... that's why I'd love to switch to a GSM-based network... the idea of SIM cards and cross-company (capable, after being unlocked) phones is exciting to me. It opens up options and, while it may be more expensive, I am not stuck with the slim pickings offered at the stores.

Here's the wiki link to PCS..Link I think that i Sprint still uses a proprietary CMDA network, though.
