Open CD-Drive on G4 Quicksilver / Sawtooth During Boot

Having issues getting the CD-Drives open on my Sawtooth and Quicksilver during boot...I've tried a normal white Apple keyboard and a silver MacPro Keyboard. Hitting the Eject Button, Command button, F12, etc. it never opens. If I force it open and put the OS CD in, reboot and boot to CD it loads and its fine....just cant get it to open on boot....

Any suggestions?

Click and hold your mouse while booting. Or press and hold the 'space' bar on your keyboard.

If those don't work, get a paper clip and pop it open manually 😉

you can also boot into OpenFirmware and type

eject cd
