Argh!

If you have a window open and, for whatever reason, click on the desktop, the windows will fly out to the edges of your screen and only return if you can find them and click on them again.

This, apparently, is a 'Feature' and turned on by default.
Beyond irritating here.

Fix is to go to System Settings > Desktop and Dock > Click Wallpaper to reveal Desktop and switch it from Always to Only in Stage Manager.

Insofar as Stage Manager doesn't do what I need a screen multi-tasker to do (I'll stick with Mission Control via a Hot Corner), I'll not be plagued by this feature again. Hope this helps others.

You can also click the desktop a second time to make the windows fly back to their usual locations.

I changed the settings back to what they were before (Click to reveal desktop is off), but I actually switched it back to on because I like how the widgets get color when you do it.

I love it mainly because I access my drives from the desktop frequently but now widgets will definitely get some use.

I too access my drives from the Desktop, but I didn't see how this sped things up. Also, I've only found (so far) the Weather widget (small) I find (marginally) useful - and I still don't need to see it constantly. Prefer Itsycal for my Calendar / Events viewing, while too many of the iPhone-based (and then, when only on same network) widgets are simply shortcuts and not true apps.

So yeah, I prefer / need a less 'active' screen.

I run 3 screens and have photoshop, Lightroom, and Final cut running simultaneously quite a bit.

running searches for media on 5 different hard drives and being able clear the desktop to enter the drives with the click of a mouse versus going through finder is how this speeds things up.

Thank you!
This had been bugging me for months
