I really wish my parents were this loving,

But seriously, what is the world coming to.

If he is 12 and his Great Grandmother is 63.

that makes the average age of having a child 17 right? isn't that a bit young to have a child.

so his mother had him when she was 17, her mother had her when she was 17 and her mother had her when she was 17.

So maybe he just comes from a rough family?

Look carefully. It says he is 12, his mother is 27. That would mean she had him at age 15. Or perhaps 14.

Do you have it now? If you actually did have it as a kid, you should still have it, or at least the ADD part. Most of the "hyperactivity" fades as you get older. Mine did by around age 24, I think. I'm 26 now.

Hard to say. I know that I still fit a lot of the symptoms to a "T" -- I can be impulsive, I start lots of projects that never get finished, I find it VERY difficult to sit still. Even in meetings at work I need to be constantly fidgeting. I'm a leg-bouncer. I sit at a cube all day and I need to get up and walk around about every 5-10 minutes.

Sometimes when I'm alone in the car I catch myself making silly noises or whatever... just to let loose some excess energy.

And -- here's an interesting one -- coffee seems to calm me down. If I find myself being a little too restless, I drink a coffee and that helps me be productive for quite a while afterward. I did a Google search for coffee and ADHD and there seems to be a correlation -- some people claim that coffee has the opposite effect on ADHD people than on regular people, serving to calm them down rather than act as a stimulant.

As for the reaction to my comments about letting ADHD kids be free, I of course don't mean to let them loose all the time. I just think there are much better ways of relating to kids and training them to channel their energy into productive things rather than simply trying to coerce them with anger, force, or a sheer battle of wills.

Give the mom credit on that one... I'd say thats like a "career day" or a "field trip". Obviously the kid is walking down some crazy paths, and what better way to make a point.

On the other hand, hopefully he doesnt just become habituated and de-sensitized to being arrested

I totally agree with the guy who posted about not shoving pills down kids throats because they have "ADHD"...

First of all, kids shouldn't be taking unnecessary drugs for just about any reason. These things really screw with your development, and especially the central nervous system while you're younger. So much of what is considered ADHD can be related to other causal situations. Ever notice that most of the super-hyper kids in the classroom have some of the worst diets? Hmm, I suppose its just coincidence as well that many come from less than disciplinary household situations...

Of course there are exceptions and true cases out there, but I'd venture to say that 90% of ADHD kids grow out of it, and/or can be set straight with a little TLC.
