Until something comes along that knocks Apple off its perch, you’re right. But it could be just around the corner. Apple should be innovating but has grown a little complacent. Yeah the sales figures are strong but how long can this last without new groundbreaking tech and ideation only?
Just like the end of the world could be around the corner. Tomorrow could be my last day on earth because the meteor hits. I’m not planning on that and I don’t think Apple should be planning on being knocked off the perch

This would be cool!

I’ve had a pendant attachment for my Apple watch since the series two, it does kind of look like jewelry with the stainless model. Would be really useful to have a full AI assistant in there!
I can’t find where I read it but apparently it was a leak from OpenAI.

A device not too dissimilar to the iPod shuffle with no screen but a camera and microphone (presumably a speaker too?) that you can wear as a pendant or put in your jacket pocket

It apparently will use an app on your smartphone to display any outputs it needs to but whose primary interface is voice.

Apparently the idea is that it won’t supplant your smartphone, but that you’ll start to use it more than that.

It sounds pretty cheap to produce. So the rumour about you getting it free when you subscribe to a certain. ChatGPT tier sounds pretty believable - and compelling.

Then Apple needs to create the next great thing before someone else does.

That’s not what Apple does. Apple is not trying to be first to market with anything. Apple perfects existing tech then releases them. If you want the newest tech, Apple is not the brand for you.

The folding phone with its beautiful crease in the middle has not been released by Apple yet.

Apple wasn’t the first to market with an ARM chip laptop, like the M1. How long have AR googles been around before the Vision Pro. I’m pretty sure the iPhone was not the first touchscreen phone without a keyboard. Even the OG Apple product, the Apple l was not the first personal computer.

I would have thought Google might push back on the io name given possible confusion with their annual I/O conference.

Imagine you're a contractor/electrician/plumber/other tradesperson. Here are some things AI could help you with:
  • Take a picture of a lighting/plumbing fixture/appliance to get the product manual
  • Taking a picture of something malfunctioning to quickly identify broken parts/components
  • Quickly identifying error codes and their meaning in plain English
  • Code compliance checks to flag potential building code violations
  • Faster and more accurate cost estimates
  • Automatic generation of invoices / job reports; Drafting and sending payment reminders
  • Answers to technical questions from apprentices/less experienced employees
  • Chatbots to screen incoming requests; answer quick questions and schedule appointments without humans
  • Improve scheduling jobs / optimizing route to customer sites
  • Creating marketing content
  • Drafting permit applications
I also personally think AI is going to make starting and running your own business significantly easier.
This. Anyone who doesn't get the benefits of AI by now really isn't paying attention.

To all the one who praise the AI as good, here’s my anecdote:

My request for ChatGPT is a simple list for FGK stars with rocky exoplanets on a certain Earth masses on a reasonable distance to Earth. Of all the 10 stars, only 2 is verified to a good degree with the 8 having low degree of confidence to being far away.

It’s frustrating and his python graph is bad.

Can’t even correctly cite a correct website and can’t even make a decent PDF.

I doubt he designed that.
He oversaw the design of the products that included the butterfly keyboard. Meaning even if he didn’t design them himself (which he might have) he approved their use despite the massive flaws that were revealed after only a few weeks in the public arena

Maybe he’s learned his lesson from that debacle but it’s not a great sign

I find the topic of future tech really interesting, like trying to imagine a new colour or an unheard note. Outside of laptops, phones and tablets I find it hard to imagine a category of personal technology that would catch on successfully.

I have to say I am sceptical that on one side you might gain additional info by connecting all your life with AI, like it will find friends you might have in the same local area, or suggest a restaurant you might like, but on the other hand all this will be data mined by big companies to milk you and maybe manipulate you to buy certain things or services. People living in bubbles might become even more dominant. Almost remotely controlled. The core business is not "their" service to you but that they extract data from you and everyone for "their" big picture. I would not want to share my private life's data with Sam or Mark.

It’s over for Apple. In 5-10 years they will be making modems like Nokia after it fell.

If you’ve seen movie “Her” you know that in the future you interact with your computer like you would have a real person assistant who’s doing all the stuff for you.

I think that’s deluded in the extreme.

There’s no-one actually building that.

Plus. You know what was a movie plainly. You don’t think that it will be different.

Apple: Apple Intelligence will work this time, we promise so go buy the newest iPhone!
Also Apple: Wait! What? What happened to AAPL?

Instead of focusing on making great products like they did over a decade ago, Apple now insists that pushing AI products and gimmicks is the best thing ever. The problem is, great products have nothing to do with AI or gimmicks: just look at Apple stocks. Almost 20% down in less than a year.

Billions and billions of phones on the planet, and yet nobody actually answers them.😂

I get the idea, but it completely falls apart once you read the Wall Street Journal article where they say that it’s not wearable.
It’s a device that you can sit on your desk or in your pocket according to that article, so definitely not a pair of glasses, or a watch.
My guess is a fusion between: GPTARS without the walking + some sort of small, secondary screen, like a lightly larger rabbit R1 (to visually confirm it has understood what you said like in a McDonalds drive-thru) + perhaps a projectable keyboard/input method, probably really good at getting what you mean by studying your gestures.

Like the Nintendo Switch version of Kitt/HAL 9000/TARS with ChatGPT. Who TF knows.

What Steve was working towards was something along the lines of the Knowledge Navigator. I can't prove it but I'm sure this is what he had in mind when he acquired Siri

So Siri, only it is more chatty kinda like Google Gemini Live, but completly unprompted and interrupts you every chance it gets.

Also, it's so wild he takes off and leaves his Maxi Siri iPad on the desk, like an animal, leaving the internet on his desk when he could take it with him to lunch in case he needs to do whatever.

pretty dumb that last paragraph. They are ridiculously behind. Embarrassingly. And you should read up more on AI.
I really A. Don’t understand what people are missing in iOS that’s available in a pixel I have a pixel and an S25u(missing stuff isn’t AI it’s multitasking and how the gallery is handled). B. Doubt that anyone is making a purchase decision on this. It seems like this is all a market game where people are making a big deal to drop apples stock prices so they can buy low sell high. As it is if you want to use chatgpt you can do that on iOS/macOS as well if not better than you can on android.

This is so bizarre to me. This would be like in 2011 saying android is so far ahead of iOS because iPads and iPhones don’t have an Apple search engine but android has a Google search engine…um using Google on iOS what’s the issue?
