Funny you mention that, because Meta just announced they are building a massive $13 billion data center in Canada where they will be fully funding all power generation and making huge investments into the existing grid infrastructure.

The project is estimated to generated $250 million per year in taxes and levies. I’m pumped.

The two years lost by Apple (2024-2026) with their own LLM models have been a tragedy. ChatGPT Work, Claude Cowork, OpenClaw, Perplexity Personal Computer... that idea of deep automation of a computer is approaching its functional maturity and Apple is still preparing its version 1.0 (with the help of Google). They have probably resorted to Google's models because that company is also working in that same direction, with a lot of experience in a similar environment (Android). Apple has to accelerate a lot from now on and compete in prices thanks to models that run locally!

Apple's strategy, I think, is still focused on privacy, which I think will attract more people. The big ones are powerful, yes, but they have questionable practices and/or companies running them. In fact, some of them are fighting over a contract with the US government. Imagine a military being run by a hallucination. One could argue SkyNet was hallucinating when it determined humanity was to be exterminated. Fictional, of course, but you never know what could happen if these companies aren't regulated by laws and consumer protection.

If you were even half as informed as you likely think you are, you’d realize magic is a huge understatement.

As I’ve already told you, only electricity itself matches the significance of this technological breakthrough.

Talk about completely misreading reality.

To put this in hardware terms, AI has gone from Pentium II level capability to Apple M1 level capability in the span of maybe 5 years.

Roughly 23 years of progress in 5 years. And yet people STILL have their heads stuck in sand.

Mainframes went to Pentium II to M1, that was progress. AI went to Data Centers which are not just a lot bigger than mainframes. 5 years of regression after more than 23 years of progress.

Codex Mac app has been my main UI for all work for the past couple of months. It is _extremely_ powerful. With it, I ended up mostly retiring all IDEs and also use it in editing document and spreadsheets. Now all that is integrated inside ChatGPT Mac app and it is actually great (way better than Claude Code and Claude Work has been for me).

Just to quantify: $200/m ChatGPT Pro subscription is the most value I have gotten from any tool or service. More willing to downgrade my Mac or iPhone to a many-years-old model instead of going to a less capable version of this subscription. As an Apple shareholder I am worried.

I understand that many people skeptical of AI are hesitant to even try. It is hard to grasp what such an app even does before experiencing it. I recommend giving it a try.

I find Claude way better for coding and programming and debugging than GPT. Each has their own strength, Claude is horrible at images in every way haha.

"Horrible" is one way to describe it — Anthropic does not even have an image model 🙂

I have been using both Claude and Codex side-by-side for months. Both with sufficiently large subscriptions. In the last two months OpenAI models and tooling did catch up with Opus. Then Fable jumped ahead for a while, but usage limits were not usable (I am not willing to pay thousands / month for AI models). Now with 5.6 Sol the top models are equally capable, but OpenAI pricing is approachable.

If your experience on Claude Code vs Codex is from a couple of months ago, you should give it another try: Today OpenAI is in lead.
