OpenAI today announced the launch of ChatGPT Health, a dedicated section of ChatGPT where users can ask health-related questions completely separated from their main ChatGPT experience.

For more personalized responses, users can connect various health data services such as Apple Health, Function, MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers, AllTrails, Instacart, and Peloton. Last month, MacRumors discovered icons related to Apple Health within the ChatGPT app, and today's announcement makes the integration official. Once connected, ChatGPT will be able to access your health and fitness data from Apple Health, including movement, sleep, and activity patterns.

ChatGPT Health can also integrate with your medical records, allowing ChatGPT Health to analyze your lab results and other aspects of your medical history to inform its answers to your health-related questions. OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT Health is not intended to provide diagnoses or treatment and is not a substitute for consulting with medical professionals, but it can be used to help understand results or prepare for upcoming appointments.

Privacy and security are always major concerns when it comes to health records, and OpenAI says ChatGPT Health has been developed with multiple layers of encryption and operates as a separate space with enhanced privacy. Data from ChatGPT Health is not used to train ChatGPT's foundation models by default, and users who start health-related conversations in the general ChatGPT interface will receive suggestions to move the discussions to the Health section.

ChatGPT Health is launching with a waitlist to join a group of beta users, with users on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom eligible to start. Medical record integrations and some apps are only available in the United States at the current time. Access to ChatGPT Health will expand to all users on web and iOS in the coming weeks.

In theory yes, would love that but of course, no way. Well if it were Google I'd laugh myself off a chair. With ChatGPT have a bit more trust in them, but most likely unfounded, and have unlike Apple whose entire premise is user privacy since it aligns with their business model. Google's is all about using and selling your data to others beat only by Facebook in that regard. ChatGPT currently isn't in the market much of selling your data, but only because their focus is using all your data to improve their service and have plenty of incoming money to need to sell. But once they do need to, they maybe first in line and have more data on us than any other company ever. So I'll wait for Apple's eventual option, which while may not be as good, will be as secure and private as possible which is more important to me. Since if tomorrow ChatGPT says whoops...x happened, and all your health data tied to your name has leaked. You can never undue that damage, which could be devastating for many. Unfortunately the average person doesn't think through all this that much, and will just see a popup, and only see benefits without understanding what they are agreeing to even if the app says they are "secure" and wouldn't do anything bad with your data "intentionally".

Plus, Google would be like "yo, you need to eat more pebbles."

ChatGPT is actually pretty good with medical stuff. For all the medical people say, medicine is actually cookie cutter for the most part. If it wasn't it wouldn't work.

I'm sure doctors are sick of patients dragging google results in. This at least has the chance that the output might be appropriate.

Google within Fitbit's app also has Lab programs, opt-in programs users can participate in and one of the is medical records related and I said hell no to that and that's not even being processed through AI but ChatGPT? Now that's a fat hell no from me and should be by anyone.

Also uploading medical records, doesn't that cross some regulations with HIPAA here in the US?
