OpenAI's Sora App Adds Character Cameos and Video Stitching Tools

For contrast to the general opinion....Sora is great. It's on the level of TikTok as most of it is nonsense but it demonstrates some real cleverness and creativity from the users.

Sora has two amazing innovations completely separate from the incredible advances in AI video creation. The first is the cameo. You can make a video of you and Shaq hanging out with JFK talking about conspiracy theories and it looks very real. Swipe up and down for endless examples. The second is the remix. When someone has a clever idea someone else can remix the video with minor changes. For example someone makes a video of Audry Hepburn in a theatre enjoying a specific movie like Breakfast at Tiffanies. Than someone else can change the movie to Saw or whatever. This is swiping right.

From a creation standpoint it's a lot of fun. From a consumption standpoint it's also a riot seeing the way remixes evolve.

It's not high art...it's mild entertainment like youtube shorts or TikTok but with high end video creation democratized.

Other complaints about AI stealing information, or the high electricity demands and water demands I just attribute to ongoing ignorance and hysteria and a general luddite impulse.

You literally just said one of the great features is to take somebody else clever idea and 'remix' it. Just like that with zero effort. Where's the future in that when we've all done it a few times and seen how easily somebody will just steal our best ideas within a minute?

Can’t see use cases for that except some lazy TikTok videos and filters. Probably Apple gonna add it to their iMessage, camera and FaceTime so people can shoot “anonymous selfies”. Probably it will find use among younger generation (7 years old+), but I guess I am too old for this🤣

Have you seen the output, even the tiny fraction of "presented" output cherry-picked from the mass of total output? It's not nearly consistent or coherent enough to ever be called "high end video creation".

The burden should lie with the huge corporations, not us regular people.

I don't use straws every day. If I use a different straw has near zero comparably effect as OpenAI has by adding huge data centres for useless features.

It’s just one ai doing this. Grok does this. Others. And it only continues to get worse. There’s an ai actress with an agent out there. Famous actors can use or license “doubles” or ai versions of themselves to do more movies. Heck the rock can only make so many movies himself. Bring in ai rock. lol.

People are dumb enough to believe anything these days. Now you can show em made up videos to go along with it.
