Same as Rob, here!

I couldn't get OCLP 0.6.1 to apply post-install root patches, so I built version 0.6.2 (taught me to install Python!), but although everything went fine, I'm hitting the same wall and can't have the graphics acceleration which makes everything really sloooooow! So slow in fact that I had to switch back to my 2009 iMac to write this post!

Config is:
- Mac Pro 5,1 - mid-2010
- 48GB of RAM
- Samsung SSD QVO 870 4TB startup drive in bay #1 (other bays populated as well: SSD QVO 870 8TB in bay #2 — not showing up, BTW, 1TB HDD in bay#3 part of a Fusion Drive, 8TB HDD in bay #4, + SSD 500GB — second leg of the Fusion Drive and SSD QVO 870 8TB on a Sonnet PCIe card, both working fine)
- Radeon 580 with 8GB of VRAM

All worked fine before I decided to update to Ventura 13.2.1 (was running 13.x before).

Help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi again batspray,
Lucky you to still have a MacPro 5.1. I sold mine a couple of years ago after Mojave crippled it, with dosdude's patches installed - well before the arrival of OCLP. Mine was pretty much the same config as yours, except for the drives which were of a different brand. Beautiful design, beautiful engineering in their construction, but ultimately outclassed my later stuff, such as my M1 MacMini.
As for our current problems with OCLP v0.6.2 and Ventura 13.2.1, I guess we'll have to wait until the guys at github work through the issues. After all their hard work, I don't think they'll abandon their efforts (as other posts have feared), but clearly we're right at the leading edge of their solutions.
By the way, do you know the official route to leaving comments at GitHub - I guess they'd like to know the issues we're having? Also, now that Ventura has become more like iOS, I haven't drilled down to find where the various start-up and troubleshooting logs are located. Any hints?

It seems like I have the same issue. Could you tell me how you did the nightly install with python?
I've downloaded and installed/unpacked the file but when I type "cd ~/Developer" into the terminal it tells me there is no such file or directory.
Do I need to do more to get python running except downloading and installing it?
The cd ~/Developer is where u want the files to be save. U can simply saved anywhere or folder

Hi Guys,
I've been running Ventura 13.2 on my iMac 17.1 for a couple of months - trouble free. I used patcher v 0.5.1 to install OCLP, back when the KDK app was available from Apple and was loaded automatically, and smoothly upgraded from 13.0 through 13.2.1 when Apple released them. But their most recent upgrade to Ventura 13.2.1 broke the system, resulting in 5 minute cold boots (prev about 60 seconds), jerky mouse movement, inconsistent mouse clicking, and worst of all - I couldn't enter Sleep mode. The Mac will automatically go into a quasi-sleep mode after a couple of minutes, but it's still really awake, just has no screen display. Recovery from here is also very slow etc etc.

So today I followed the link suggested by gpb42 (posts # 9 and # 19 above) and successfully downloaded the not-yet-public v 0.6.2 of the patcher, using Python 3.10 etc as directed! so, since Ventura 13.2.1 was already installed, I ran the updated Patcher v 0.6.2. This downloaded KDK Build 22D49, then started the patch.

This didn't end well - the progress message indicated that the patcher "was capable of patching" , but that "PatcherSupportPkg resources missing, Patcher likely corrupted". I haven't yet discovered where the start-up and patcher logs are kept in Ventura, so my troubleshooting has stalled a bit. Does any one have any idea how to recover the missing PSP resources?

Machine details are 27in 5k Retina iMac 17.1 late 2015, 3.2GHZ Quad-core Intel Core i5View attachment 2164765, AMD Radeon R9 M390 2 GB graphics, 24 GB DDR3 RAM, 1 TB fusion drive.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated
Rob
Hi Rob,

After a lot of struggling with this issue, this is how I solved it.

- use OCLP 0.6.2* to create a new bootable USB thumb drive with a fresh install of Ventura 13.2.1. This allows to have a flashed version of macOS Installer, directly on the thumb drive.

- boot the Mac Pro on the USB drive and reinstall Ventura on top of what was already on the internal SSD

After about a dozen reboots, voilà! Everything works fine, WiFi** and graphics acceleration, without the need to apply the post-install patches.

Since this is my daily work machine, I have to say that I'm relieved I could get it to work!

* You can either build 0.6.2 following the instructions provided in an earlier post, or download the GUI version on the same web page

** I'm not mentioning Bluetooth because for the moment, my card is installed but not connected to the motherboard for lack of a working antenna. I need to buy a new antenna and remake the connections to the motherboard. However, I don't see why it wouldn't work afterwards.

Thanks very much to toughguyinc - the link to Scwie's Pad led the way to successfully running Ventura 13.2.1 on my iMac 17.1. Go there.

The way forward is to then download the prebuilt binary OpenCore-Patcher.app (GUI).zip. This is identified as OCLP v 0.6.2 by "Get Info". Open this , and then click on "Post Install Root Patch".

KDK Build: 22D9 was then downloaded, and the patcher started, got to the line "Patcher is capable of patching" without error, then after an agonising wait, it proceeded to install KDK Build: 22D49. Nothing much happened for about 4 minutes, and then the display went dark (but not OFF). I waited another 10 minutes before hitting a keyboard key, whereupon the start-up password screen appeared. Password entry was very slow, but when the screen re-opened, OCLP declared that the patches had been successfully installed. I then switched off the iMac, and then rebooted. Lo and behold., Ventura 13.2.1 opened, and operation was back to normal. Boot up time was OK, the mouse was working smoothly and accurately, and Apple>Sleep also now works.

If any of the guys at github are reading this, please accept our thanks, and keep up the excellent work. No doubt a stable release of v 0.6.2 or later will avoid the need for all of the above, but it's been a great learning experience for this 80 yo.

Hi everyone, I decided to dig out my Late 2011 Macbook Pro 15" 8,2 and try MacOS Ventura now non-metal GPU support was available.

So, I have a working install of Ventura, all I need to do is use OCLP to apply the three patches I need (AMD TeraScale 2, Intel Sandy Bridge and Legacy Keyboard Backlight).

I've tried running the Post Install Root Patch dozens of times and get the same message - Kernel Debug Kit, a problem occurred...Could not contact Apple download servers and could not find a backup copy online.

After hours of trawling the web, I found that I should download the KDKs from apple developer site and manually install them.
Now I have five different versions of OS 13 KDK installed in what I think is the correct (default) location, but I still get the error.

Does anyone know why the patcher is still trying to download the KDK despite it being installed?
Does anyone know a fix or a workaround for this?
It seems so simple, the patcher must be looking in the wrong location for the KDK but I don't know how to fix.

I'm so close to getting my MacBook working, this is so frustrating!!

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.
Open this website https://github.com/dortania/KdkSupportPkg/releases and then choose 22D49 ,then install it to your comp. after that open OCLP and then choose post install root patch. and so on just go with the flow

And to batspray - your reply didn't reach me until after toughguyinc's post. However, it seems that we both followed the same road to a successful Ventura 13.2.1 installation. I'm glad your MP5.1 is now going well under 13.2.1!

BTW and apologies for off-topic, for reasons I can no longer recall, I installed a new antenna on my MacPro 5.1 very simply. I ratted an antenna from an old modem, mounted it on one of the expansion slot covers, and connected it to the wi-fi/BT card with a cable I found on eBay. I bought two of these cables, and may have kept the second one. If I can find it, would you like me to mail it to you? No charge of course.

Unbelievably, I tried running the Patcher again this morning and it worked, still version 0.6.1 and I changed nothing ???
However, I am seeing some issues after patching:

Open windows seem to 'flicker' with blocks of colors?
Tried using Maps and had some pop ups to OK to continue but the focus was on the window behind, had to force quit as app was unusable

Not used it for too long so not sure what other issues I may see.

Anyone else had these problems?

Also, where did you get v0.6.2 ?
Re your later post about running Ventura 13.2.1. Glad to hear your MBP 8.2 will run with it. The later posts by toughguyinc and me should get the patches working for you. I also have an old 8.2, so getting it to run on 13.2.1 will be my next challenge. Good luck.

Hi Rob!

That's a very sweet offer, thank you, but I ordered earlier this morning a 2-pack antenna extension cable and an external antenna as well for better Bluetooth reception. Should arrive within 10-15 days (I live in France and they were only available on Amazon US).

The thing is, I had bought a WiFi + BT combo card, which came with antenna extensions but I ruined one of them and I'm pretty sure that the original antenna (to which I was supposed to connect the extension) is damaged as well. When I tried to disconnect it from the original BT card, it wouldn't come off gently and I noticed that the female part on the original card was gone (and may actually still be in the male part, but it's so tiny that I can't really see it!).

As for OCLP, I'm not sure we followed the same path (i.e.: I totally reinstalled from scratch on top of my existing Ventura setup, but from a thumb drive prepared by OCLP 0.6.2), but the best part is that it's working for the both of us!

Have a nice day!

Just joined this group. Just wanted to say after you patch with 0.6.2 go to settings in OCP and click on settings, click on Non-Metal Support and enable beta blur. This got rid of the blockiness for me, hopefully it will work for you. 2011 iMac 27 inch i5 8gb ram and 500gb ssd, all running perfect so far.

This is not a reply to @tchelofa especially, But you all do realize there is a prior thread already in this forum on installing macOS on unsupported Macs, right? It might be better to consolidate all of the valuable info.
You're right, but this thread specifically deals with a certain issue for users already using OCLP. I'm not sure it'll be worth grouping it with the main thread. Just my 2 cents…

For those struggling with the KDK issue and 13.2.1 update, I got OCLP's Post Install Root Patch to work as described here.
Big thanks for the tip about the nightly build - that solved everything.
I sure appreciate it - I was considering on making a new build…

And thanks to everyone for chipping in before this message.
I am new in this forum, but with such knowledge and solutionseekers - I will be around here for sure.

All the best! Cheers!
