I was trying to change out my home button on my 3G and since cables are so short I had one side of phon leaning on an object to keep it up and if fell over and all cables disconnected, one is a real pain to get back.

see attached photo any ideas on how to connect?

How hard is that to do can you expand some?
It's essentially not possible. You would have to unsolder the existing connector and solder a new one in. Unsoldering the existing connector is rather difficult even if you have a reflow station.

^^ This.... Even if you have solid soldering skills, repairing that would be almost impossible to do by hand.
