Interesting for those of you who do games / graphics programming. I wonder if Apple will support OpenGL 3 in Mac OS X 10.6?

With their own development of OpenCL for Snow Leopard?
They haven't yet, and doubt they will in the near future. :apple:
    Take a look here.

I somehow doubt your reasoning. Yes, OpenCL uses the GPU just like OpenGL does... but for a completely different purpose. These two technologies don't clash unless used at the same time.

OpenCL has nothing to do with OpenGL.

I was thinking development time, not compatibility. Sorry, I should have clarified.
My suspicions lead me to believe that the Grand Central and OpenCL development would have required quite a bit, if not most of the development time. So not enough left to work on OpenGL. AFIAK, they don't have existing code to build from, which would require even more time.

Open Source code could help, but still may not have shortened it enough for the initial release. As an update, perhaps. It would be nice. :)

Don't forget that Apple sit on the OpenGL standards board so they probably had a decent head start in terms of development time. I'd be surprised if they didn't make OpenGL support a priority, they have been pretty good in the past with supporting the latest standard.

As for OpenCL I guess you are right that it will take precidence, I just hope not to the detriment of OpenGL.

I figured OpenGL is on the to-do list, just not at the highest priority. Always something just above. ;)

I didn't even think about Apple being on the standards board. Hopefully, it won't turn out like Blu ray has so far. :p

There are a few welcome additions that would be nice to see supported by Apple, but they're really having a go at the new spec on the opengl.org forums. Much of the anger seems to be based on the fact that the API has not had the revamp that was talked about over a year ago.

True, but most of the anger is just mindless ranting. I wouldn't mind if most of them presented reasoned arguments. I am a bit disappointed that they didn't meet the expectations that they initially promised but it is nothing to get your knickers in a twist.

Granted, I'm not a particularly heavy duty OpenGL programmer so take my opinion how ever you see fit.
