opening docs in pages - resave

I've started using Pages - for iWorks

every time I open existing docs
it does some sort of conversion - so I need to save changes

This wouldn't drive me completely crazy if I could just save it to the same destination from whence it came.

But I'm always forced to navigate to where I want it saved !!

Any way to avoid this?

Huh? You need save the document only if you edit it and want to save your changes. Pages saves documents as .pages files. If you want to save in .doc format, then you must export your document to this format.
