I have got a file, in Arabic as it happens, in my Documents-folder in this notebook. I need to be able to read the file when I am using a publicly-available computer, perhaps when I have left my notebook at home, and am working in the public library. I am sure that this is a very beginner-ish question, but how in those circumstances can I read the file ?

You could get a cheap USB key (thumb drive) and format it to FAT32 on your Mac then copy the file to that drive. Then it could be accessed by an computer Mac or Windows later on.

Thank you, and I am considerably embarrassed not to have thought of that !
