I am very dissatisfied with the Android File Transfer app. It is agonizingly slow and I want to know if anyone is familiar with OpenMTP? It is open source apparently. Anyone use it? Is it safe? I know that Transmission suffered some security issues a few years ago; different type of software, I know.

Supposedly OpenMTP is a more modern protocol that transfers music files much faster with a better interface. I use a Samsung A20 with my mac. (Yes I have an ipod Touch though it is aging now. - I am saving for an iPhone.)

thanks

Bumping this. What do Android users use nowadays to transfer their files to Mac? AFT doesn't always shows the "Could not connect to device" error no matter what I do. NearDrop doesn't work either; it always times out after starting the transfer and never delivers even 1MB to my Mac running 14.2.1.

I use it. Works much better than the crappy and ancient app provided by Google.
The Preview app on the Mac has to be closed or otherwise it won't recognize my Samsung S23U for some reason.

It works fine for me. I don't know if it's safe. I haven't seen any adverse behavior. The Mac's built in security hasn't flagged it as dangerous, fwiw

Although less convenient, you can also use adb wired or wifi to transfer files to your Android device. This is my preferred way to sideload apps to my android devices.

Or you can set up an smb share on your Mac and use a file explorer with smb support, like X-plorer
