Hey, the OpenOffice.org 3.0 beta is now downloadable. Lots of nice interface improvements -- fully acquified, no X11 required! Decent speed.

I won't trade it for iWork, but it can certainly replace MS Office when I need to do something iWork can't handle -- graphs with error bars, trendlines, scatter plots, etc.

Separate apps, or is it unified app nonsense?

Unified. That doesn't bother me too much as long as it doesn't take too much memory.

I use NeoOffice because up until now OOO has required X11. Now that that's no longer the case, can anyone tell me if it launches faster than NeoOffice? It's always been a peeve of mine that NeoOffice takes forever to launch.

I have found it launches about 1/3 the time of NeoOffice (on MBP Penryn - Feb 08). I haven't really used NeoOffice since the pre-Beta, and now the Beta, came out.

With this coming out, will NeoOffice become irrelevant and fade away?
