I use openoffice to keep a diary, recently I have included some jpg pics as well, the file size has grown to 100.4MB and now doesnt seem to open even after ~10mins with no other software open, restarts tried. Is there anything I can do or try to open it so I can at least divide it up so it is smaller? Is there a software that could be a more reliable alternative to openoffice? Thanks for help

You posted this in the iOS apps sub-forum... are you actually running this on an iOS device?

You might try LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice. LibreOffice is more actively maintained than OpenOffice. Hopefully LibreOffice will be able to open that file.

You didn't indicate which module you use in OpenOffice for that diary. Is it a word document, spreadsheet, presentation, or relational database?

I think something like OneNote would be better for diary/journal with images. It's available on multiple platforms and is free. Memory management is something that OneNote excels at since OneNote notebooks can be extremely large.

thanks so much for the suggestion sracer, is OneNote in the app store? l use the word document in openoffice. it really is not that reliable or stable l feel. l have also been recommended to try www.freeoffice.com how does it compare to libreoffice or onenote? l use it for taking notes or writing diary with some inserted jpgs. lastly been told to do maintenance on my mbpr ising Onyx. l never have done since l purchased in 2012 except running malwarebytes rarely. my mbpr has been running well, though it is probably a shade slower than when l first got in 2012, certainly on start up taking ~20secs v~14secs when new. thoughts?

Happy to help. I hope that you can recover your files.

Yes, OneNote is in the app store... and it is free. Since you are using the word processor in OpenOffice there is a possibility that you can open the file in LibreOffice. The purpose of opening it in LibreOffice is simply to be able to recover the contents so that you can transfer the data to something like OneNote.

I do not recommend ANY word processor for your particular task of diary/journaling. They simply aren't designed to handle such large files. FreeOffice is a fine productivity suite but it won't be any better than OpenOffice in working with the massive file that you have.

thought l replied yesterday, tried Libreoffice to open the defunct open office file, it doesn't :( tried for ~ 2hours but it wouldn't open. Onenote seems a bit unfamiliar, and no way of saving it in my computer or external hard drive? I SEE YOU CAN SAVE IT AS A PDF on computer, is that the only way to save onto computer? and it doesnt allow 2 columns of text layout? mac's 'Note' seems to work as well as onenote? and lastly whats your comments on using a maintenance programme like onyx? l have never done any maintenance on my mbpr, except very occasional malwarebytes thanks
[doublepost=1557091398][/doublepost]apologies, further to last post, forgot to ask, whats opinion of keeping diary with pics in my yahoo mail which has plenty of space. doing the occasional back up in freeoffice or libreoffice?
