Hi.. I jailbroke my iphone just yesterday and i'm finding it amazing.
So far i've tried a few things

    -SwirlyMMS
    -Notifier
    -SBsettings

all of which are very useful indeed!! I'm finding some trouble with OpenSSH. It seems that whenever I restart the iphone, openssh is always running.

Is there a way to shut it off completely unless I need it for something (I can activate it using SBsettings if needed).

I guess openssh running all the time is a battery drainer.

    Thanks.

You can use BossPrefs or SBSettings to toggle them. They are both downloadable in the "featured" tab of cydia.

From what i understand though. SSH is only "on" when in use. So it only drains when being used not in standby.

I've read that too but I don't think it makes much sense. For it to listen to the ssh port, a daemon needs to be running, and if it does, it drains battery.

I know you can toggle using sbsettings for example, but the default is to be always on (after a restart, e.g.). I want for it to be always off unless I turn it on.

    no one? :)

why can't you just uninstall openssh? then it can't be on.

So I have to reinstall everytime I need it?
That's hardly easier than turning it off everytime I reboot my iphone, isn't it?

So, If you set the toggle in settings (the more tab) to off this only removes it from the toggle tray? SSH still remains on?

I have openSSH on my phone and have no toggles to turn it off. I started out with BossPrefs to switch it on/off when I needed then I went a couple days with it on after forgetting and noticed no difference. I've never had a problem with battery life.

The toggle I'm talking about is located inside SBSettings. I'm with you I don't feel a need to turn it of at this point. But I do understand his want of control over the program. I usually have something like AIM running in the background so SSH would be the least of my worries if I were worried about battery life.

I just checked SBSettings and apparently it doesn't have the "SSH on Reboot always" toggle that BossPrefs does.

But does SBSettings leave SSH on by default? Not sure...

That toggle in SBSettings is for the button to appear on the SBSettings interface, not the actual SSH program.

Boss Prefs has a toggle to have "SSH on Reboot always". That sounds like what you're looking for, right?
