For those with poor data connections Opera Mini does seem lightning fast!

I do hope that it gets approved as this will give people a choice over Opera or Safari if they're in an EDGE or GPRS only area.

    EDIT: I'm saying yes.

Isn't it just another webkit browser but with compression being done on the fly by Opera's servers?

If it is then Apple will likely approve it, or decline it whilst removing all the other browsers in the process.

    Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/5.0.18302/1076; U; en) Presto/2.4.15)

Opera mini doesn't use webkit from what I know. It uses operas own engine called Presto.

You would think that a developer could approach Apple before they start and ask whether they'd be wasting their time.

I don't think they'd be wasting their time. If the App Store won't carry the browser, then Cydia most certainly will. Either way, it will still be installed on the iPhone.

I'm hoping that this happens so I can get it one way or another.

It doesn't support pinch to zoom which is a downer but I still want to see it approved.

Hopefully they'll add that in a later update.
