Completely incorrect. The Chinese actively engage in economic and industrial espionage. You must have missed the Apple Car data theft posts on this site. They target American interests at all levels, even down to hacking college students to gain access to research data.

In what way are the activities you mention not a subset of caring for their political hegemony? Industrial espionage, Apple car data, research data — these all equate directly to power, both economic and military.

That said, I have zero doubt Chinese (and every other) powers ensure that back doors are present. Those involved in sensitive communications should assume that they are at risk.

You're backpedaling. You said a "threat". The ability to make more money is now a "threat"? Their intellectual property violations are clearly so they can make software and products without investing their own money into R&D. So having to spend money to play fair is a "threat"?
