My early 2011 MBP is definitely dying. Currently running 16gig RAM, 750gig HD, 2.2GHz i7, Radeon 6750M 1gig.

I am looking at an offical Apple refurbished 15", 2015 May, 16gig DDrR, 256 PCIe drive, Intel Iris Pro, around $1600-1700 USD (I am in Asia, not USA)

Latest MBP 2.8Ghz is equivalent of around $2400
Non touchbar 2.2Ghz with 2 TB ports is about $1850-$1900

Main use: I used to use the "pro" aspects more, but now it's primarily:

- web development

- Photoshop / Illustrator

- Logic

- Some Nuke and DaVince Resolve. Possibly some Houdini 3D.

As far as I know, I can upgrade the SSD on the 2015 but not the 2017. Correct?

I have zero need for the touch bard.

Any opinions Re: the price vs the age etc. I also have a bunch of USB stuff and Firewire audio interface and backup drive.

Are you talking about the older 2015 one? Yeah, that's true, but it's not there now, so that isn't much good. If my computer had carked it two weeks ago, I would have probably got one, but it didn't, so here we are. Also, the prices are approximate based on USA vs Japan. They are almost always going to be cheaper in the USA.

I am hoping my 2011 lasts to the end of the year, but recent crashes have shown it's unlikely, or that I will only be able to use it for for very light tasts.

For future reference, I went with the 2015 because I just dont have the money for a new MBP and with all my music and graphic gear I would need to buy a mass of dongles and connectors pushing the price up even further.
