I own the 2.5 with 2 gigs of memory, and to put it simply, it screams. It is the fastest machine I have ever used by a long shot.

I suspect this machine will still have me satisfied 5 years from now.

iDo Photoshop work, play iTunes, am on iChat, have pictures importing, etc. With 768MB of RAM.

And iDo this on a 1.33 GHz PowerBook 12"

Its pretty fast... and its a lot more portable than a G5! Plus, it can go for a few hours without recharging the batteries...:D

ok, I know this is all personal opinion and I am somewhat in a biased forums, however, its because of you guys I purchased, and replaced my pc with an iBook for the time being.

Anyway, I currently own a iBook G4 1.33Ghz, 14', 768MB Ram, Combo Drive OSX.3.7

There are times, even when doing simple tasks, that this machine slows down... not to a crawl, but a noticeable slowdown in general performance. No games are played except StarCraft and WarCraft II :)

I am not looking to jump right into a Dual G5 system, however I would like to gather some opinions on its performance. Dual G5 2.5Ghz, 1GB + Ram systems, and a good High End Video card.... compared to what I have. Now there will be a great boost going from the iBook to a Dual G5. But is it really notacable? and are say the Dual 2.5's alot faster than a single 1.8?

Thanks

Lets put it this way a dual PMG5 2.5GHz is fast enough that it does not even require Core Image. :)

Core Image is great for sub 2.0GHz G5 machines however the 2.5GHz will outperform Core Image for another year, which is good for those who invested in it. ;) :)

It's pretty fast. My work PC is based around an Athlon64 4000, and it seems much faster in photoshop in comparison to my G5. That is really the only application I use on both systems, but the A64 is much more responsive.

The dual 2.5ghz G5 is the fastest Mac though, obviously.

i use a fast AMD (custom built) here at work (windows 2000) with 1G of RAM and my DP2.5 G5 with 1.5Gs kicks it's ass in photoshop. especially when i use expose!!! :D

though the mac really shines when im multi-processing. onthe PC i can run Flash Illustrator, Phtoshop, Thunderbird, many Firefoxes, PowerPoint, Word, Vegas, iTunes, and many Explorers, but it's starts to crap out. i usuall close Illustrator, Excel and PowerPoint when i can (least used) to get max performance. the G5 runs all that and audio programs without a problem. ;)

btw- which version of PS are you using?

peace.
