Opinions on the MPC500 and MPC1000

I'm looking to get my first sequencer/sampler and have decided for one of these machines.

I would like some opinions on the MPC500 and MPC1000. Pro's and con's. Which one is better for somebody who has never touched hardware sequencer/sampler before? Is there anything else I should know before I jump the ship?

I've heard that both the 500 and 1000 has various problems with the pads, is this true?

I'd also love if somebody has a couple of pictures to quench my thirst until my machine arrives 🙂.
